Initial investigations will involve soil sampling to detect traces of wood at the site. The Durupinar Formation is primarily composed of limonite, an iron ore.

Researchers will also employ radar technology to penetrate the subsurface and identify any indications of a boat-like structure buried beneath.

Andrew Jones, a researcher with Noah’s Ark Scans, emphasized the importance of site preservation, stating to The Sun, “The location lies in an active earth flow with harsh winters, so protecting the area is our top priority.”

Jones added, “Over the next few years, our Turkish university partners will conduct non-destructive tests like soil sampling, radar scans, and other methods to determine if the structures we’ve detected are truly man-made or simply natural formations. Only after we gather enough evidence and have a proper preservation plan in place will we consider excavating.”

Local accounts suggest that the formation was exposed from surrounding mud due to significant rainfall and seismic activity in May 1948, before its rediscovery by a Kurdish shepherd.

Since then, the site has attracted Ark enthusiasts, with interest significantly increasing due to the ambitious endeavors of Noah’s Ark Scans.

Soil Analysis Reveals Anomalies at Suspected Ark Site

Previous investigations by the project at the Durupinar Formation involving 22 soil samples have yielded noteworthy findings.

Analysis indicated a decreased pH level, elevated organic matter, and increased potassium concentrations within the ‘boat shape’ area – anomalies consistent with decomposing wood, according to the research team.

Furthermore, observers have noted that the vegetation within the formation turns a paler, more yellow hue during autumn, a phenomenon researchers attribute to potential human-made structures beneath the surface.

Radar surveys have already detected rectangular patterns approximately 22 feet beneath the formation, potentially indicative of compartments within a vessel.

Geological Evidence Supports Possible Ancient Flooding

During the 7th International Symposium on Mount Ararat and Noah’s Ark in 2023, the research team presented further evidence supporting their hypothesis.

They collected 30 soil and rock specimens from the Durupinar Formation vicinity and submitted them to Istanbul Technical University for examination.

Analysis of these samples revealed the presence of clay-like materials, marine sediments, and remnants of marine organisms such as mollusks.

Dating of these materials indicated an age range of 3,500 to 5,000 years.

This data implies that the Durupinar Formation and its surrounding area were submerged during a timeframe consistent with the biblical flood narrative.

Many literal interpretations of the Bible place the global flood during the Chalcolithic period, spanning from 5500 to 3000 BC.

Such findings could reinforce the assertion that the Durupinar Formation represents the vessel employed by the biblical figure Noah to survive the ancient deluge.

Biblical Dimensions and Location Align with Durupinar Formation

Beyond the latest findings, the Durupinar Formation‘s shape and geographical position remain compelling arguments for the Noah’s Ark theory.

The Bible specifies that Noah’s Ark was constructed with dimensions of ‘a length of three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.’

While converting biblical units to modern measurements presents challenges, some scholars interpret the ‘cubit’ as the standardized Egyptian cubit of 52.4 cm.

Applying this unit, the Ark’s length would approximate 515ft (157m), comparable to the Durupinar Formation‘s 538ft (168m) length.

Additionally, the biblical text indicates the Ark came to rest on the ‘Mountains of Ararat.’
