Golfer Jason Day is set to showcase a more subdued wardrobe at this year’s Masters Tournament after his bold clothing selections at the previous tournament sparked considerable debate. The Australian golf professional faced scrutiny during last year’s Masters at Augusta National due to his unconventional attire choices from Malbon Golf, including noticeably baggy trousers and an eye-catching sweater vest featuring prominent branding.
Jason Day’s 2024 Masters Attire Under Scrutiny
During the opening round of the prestigious tournament last year, Day’s Malbon apparel drew attention. His ensemble included loose-fitting blue pants and, notably after play resumed the following day, a striking sweater vest emblazoned with the words “No. 313 Malbon Golf Championship” in large lettering. The prominent branding and design of the vest became a talking point, with numerous spectators and online viewers voicing criticism of Day’s fashion choices.
Day, who ultimately finished in a tie for 30th position in the previous Masters, mentioned to reporters that tournament officials had instructed him to remove the sweater vest. He also sported baggy khaki pants later in the competition, distinguished by an oversized side pocket.
Masters Organizers Review Day’s 2025 Clothing
This year, however, Day’s attire is anticipated to be less conspicuous. In a recent interview, he disclosed that Masters organizers had requested to preview his planned clothing selections prior to the commencement of the tournament.
Jason Day was asked to remove this conspicuous sweater vest during the 2024 Masters.
Day also garnered attention for his loose-fitting pants throughout the tournament at Augusta National.
Day mentioned on the Dan on Golf show that his outfits would be ‘toned down’ for this year’s competition.
‘If they had permitted us to proceed with our initial scripting submissions, the outfits would have been even more extravagant than last year,’ he stated on the Dan on Golf show.
‘However, things will be more understated this time, simply because they requested to review the scripting beforehand,’ he explained.
He further acknowledged that this marked the first instance where the tournament had asked to examine his scripting in advance.
‘I’ve generally maintained a neutral and moderate approach, but this year they made the request due to the events of last year,’ he commented.
Malbon’s ‘Bold’ Designs for Day at the Masters
According to Golf.com reports, Day had previously informed reporters that Malbon, his clothing sponsor for this year as well, had devised some ‘bold designs’ for the Masters, which he was uncertain would receive approval.
Past Instances of Day’s Eye-Catching Golf Apparel
Day has previously attracted attention with his clothing choices at other golf events, including a tournament in February.
During the final round at Pebble Beach in February, Day also sported an all-gray sweatsuit.
In contrast, he was seen in a more restrained white polo shirt and olive pants during a practice round on Monday.
Subdued Attire for 2025 Masters Tournament
During the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February, he opted for an all-grey sweatsuit, colloquially referred to as a ‘groutfit,’ to conclude the tournament.
However, on Monday, during a Masters practice session, he presented a more understated appearance.
The 37-year-old golfer sported a white polo shirt, subtly embroidered with an ‘M’ on the front pocket, paired with olive-colored trousers.
Day Aims for Second Major Championship
Regardless of his attire, Day’s primary focus remains on securing his second Major title this week, having previously achieved four runner-up finishes in Major championships.
His sole Major victory to date was at the 2015 PGA Championship. He is also a decorated 13-time winner on the PGA Tour, seeking to add to his list of accomplishments.
