Grace Series 5 Returns with Explosive Premiere Episode

The highly anticipated fifth series of the hit crime drama Grace debuted on Sunday evening, marking an explosive return for the popular ITV show. Based on the acclaimed novels by Peter James, the premiere episode immediately immersed viewers in a series of intense and dramatic storylines.

Intriguing Plotlines Unfold in Series Premiere

The opening episode saw Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, portrayed by John Simm, grappling with the emotional fallout from his former wife Sandy Grace’s suicide, navigating his relationship with his newly discovered son Bruno, and confronting a significant personal tragedy alongside Cleo Moray, played by Zoë Tapper.

The narrative quickly escalated as Grace and his team were summoned to a Sussex beach following the discovery of an unidentified male body found deceased inside a barrel. Concurrently, a Brighton football stadium was targeted with a chilling anonymous threat, presenting authorities with an impossible predicament.

Race Against Time at Brighton Stadium

DS Roy Grace, who was at the stadium bonding with Bruno, suddenly found himself caught in a desperate race against time to avert potential disaster and protect thousands of lives. The high-stakes scenario unfolded rapidly, showcasing the dramatic tension that defines Grace.

Behind the Scenes of the Premiere Episode

Discussing the season premiere on Monday’s edition of This Morning, presenters Dermot O’Leary and Siân Welby interviewed Grace cast members Richie Campbell, who plays DS Glenn Branson, and Zoë Tapper (Cleo Moray). The actors revealed details about filming the intense football stadium sequence.

Filming at a Secret Football Stadium

During the interview, Campbell and Tapper disclosed that they were prohibited from identifying the specific football stadium used for filming. Campbell described the demanding schedule for the first episode: “Each episode’s filming schedule spans five weeks, with the football sequence specifically allocated one week. Securing the stadium, coordinating supporting artists, and managing all elements within that timeframe was incredibly intense.”

Creating a Realistic Stadium Scene

Presenter Siân Welby inquired about the scale of extras used, questioning if the packed stadium scenes were achieved through clever filmmaking techniques.

Campbell clarified, “While we did have a number of extras, we also employed some visual techniques to enhance the crowd size. Fortunately, with the football season recently concluded, we had complete access to the stadium, allowing us extensive filming across the entire venue.”

Continued Broadcast Details

Grace continues its fifth series run every Sunday night at 8pm on ITV and ITVX. This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITVX.
