Raducanu Ascends in Latest WTA Rankings
The latest WTA rankings reveal positive movement for British tennis star Emma Raducanu. The 22-year-old player has climbed one position to reach world No. 47, according to the updated list released on Monday.
Raducanu Takes Break After Miami Quarter-Final Run
Raducanu is currently on a short hiatus from competitive play following a successful stint at the Miami Open, where she achieved her first WTA 1000 quarter-final. Initially slated to represent Great Britain in the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup (BJK Cup) matches against Germany and the Netherlands, Raducanu made the “difficult decision” to withdraw from the team.
Jodie Burrage has been named as her replacement for the BJK Cup ties. Burrage will join fellow British players Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart, Sonay Kartal, and Olivia Nicholls in the squad.
The world No. 47 was also scheduled to participate in the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen next week but has withdrawn from this event as well. Raducanu is expected to undergo a training block lasting several weeks, with her return to competition date yet to be determined.
Reason for Training Block
Following a demanding schedule of seven tournaments in the initial three months of the season, Raducanu’s team indicated that she required “space in the calendar to best look after her body,” suggesting the need for rest and focused training.
Pegula Reclaims World No. 3 Ranking
There were significant shifts at the upper echelons of the rankings. Jessica Pegula has surged back to her career-high ranking of world No. 3, surpassing Coco Gauff. The 31-year-old American player secured the WTA 500 title in Charleston on Sunday, defeating Sofia Kenin in the final match.
Pegula has a favorable opportunity to further improve her ranking and establish a new career-best position, as she has no ranking points to defend until June. She missed the entire clay-court season in 2024 due to an injury.
Kasatkina Falls in Rankings
Daria Kasatkina experienced a decline in the rankings, dropping two places to world No. 14. Kasatkina recently made headlines by switching her nationality representation, competing as an Australian player in Charleston last week after ceasing to represent Russia.
