David Siegel and the ‘Queen of Versailles’ Legacy
Jackie Siegel, a former beauty pageant contestant, gained notoriety as the “Queen of Versailles” due to her family’s opulent lifestyle and ambitious construction project. As documented in the 2012 film Queen of Versailles, Jackie and David embarked on building a sprawling mansion inspired by the Palace of Versailles, located outside Paris.
Building a Versailles-Inspired Mansion
In her 2022 Discovery+ documentary, Reign Again, Jackie elaborated on her design aspirations. “I attempted to replicate as much of it as possible,” she revealed, referring to the Palace of Versailles. “We are definitely incorporating the Hall of Mirrors, numerous columns, and French architectural elements. While the house is predominantly French in style, I am integrating some modern accents.”
Design Philosophy: ‘Overboard is Never Too Much’
Jackie described her home design philosophy as “overboard is never too much.” To ensure authenticity, she and David imported various materials from France for their grand estate.
Unique Features and Imported Materials
“One of my prized possessions is the pub, dating back to the late 1800s—it’s a truly special piece,” she noted. “Additionally, we are importing precious stones from seven different countries for the great room floors… Completing a room is incredibly fulfilling because experiencing the reality is vastly different from a rendering; you can truly appreciate all the grandeur and glamour.”
Regrets and Reflections on Home Construction
Despite her design enthusiasm, Jackie admitted some design regrets, specifically regarding the blue mansard roof on their expansive property.
“However, my husband favored the blue shingles, so we proceeded with his preference,” she explained. “I underestimated the difficulties of building a house and the significant undertaking it truly is.”
‘Queen of Versailles’ Musical on Broadway
Jackie’s life story is now serving as the basis for an upcoming Broadway musical, Queen of Versailles, which will star Kristin Chenoweth.
