Sweetin’s History of Activism

Last month, Sweetin promoted the “peaceful march” near City Hall on her main Instagram account.

Jodie has a history of participating in protests. In 2022, she was notably pushed to the ground by law enforcement during a demonstration in Los Angeles advocating for abortion rights.

“Hands Off!” Protests Span Across Major Cities

The “Hands Off!” protests unfolded across numerous cities throughout the country over the weekend, including Washington D.C., targeting both Trump and Elon Musk, the head of DOGE.

Demonstrators Rally Against Trump and Musk Policies

In Washington D.C., thousands converged on ICE headquarters as part of the nationwide demonstrations, protesting Trump’s mass deportation policies in response to the detention of Rumeysa Ozturk, a 30-year-old doctoral student from Tufts University.

These demonstrations were part of wider action, with hundreds of thousands protesting what they termed the “Trump-Musk billionaire takeover” and “the Republican assault on our freedoms and our communities.”

Protesters Voice Support for Gaza and Palestinian Rights

Social media videos captured demonstrators waving Palestinian flags and holding signs proclaiming, “Let Gaza Live!” as they rallied near the Customs and Border Protection headquarters.

Trump’s Response Remains Unseen

Meanwhile, the former president was away from the protests, spending Saturday playing golf at his Florida resort.

Ozturk was apprehended by ICE agents on March 25 while walking in a Boston suburb and subsequently placed in a detention facility in Louisiana.

Detention of Students Sparks Outrage

The Department of Homeland Security stated that Ozturk and two other Palestinian students at Columbia University, Ranjani Srinivasani and Mahmoud Khalil, were detained due to their “support for Hamas.”

Their detentions have ignited criticism from civil liberties advocates and immigration attorneys, who argue the detentions were unlawful.

On Saturday, supporters of the students marched alongside members of nearly 200 organizations as part of the “Hands Off!” demonstration.

Representatives, including Al Green, also participated in the protests, amid calls from Democrat constituents for stronger opposition to Trump and Republicans.

Protests Extend Across the Country

In New York, thousands flooded 5th Avenue, displaying American and Ukrainian flags, alongside signs featuring Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Trump with the caption, “Have you no shame?”

Protesters also gathered at Boston Common in Massachusetts, holding signs that read, “This is the government our founders warned us about,” and “You can’t spell hatred without red hat.”

This demonstration marks the largest protest against Trump since the Women’s March in 2017, which featured prominent celebrities like Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Jane Fonda, and Cher.

Trump has not yet commented on the protests but defended his tariff economic plan on Truth Social on Saturday.

According to the Los Angeles Times , around 500,000 people signed up for protests around the country which were set up by organizations such as Hands Off!; protestor seen near City Hall in L.A. on Saturday

Sweetin Defends Drag Queens in Olympics Controversy

Last July, Sweetin defended the Paris Olympics opening ceremony after it faced backlash for a controversial depiction that was interpreted by some as Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

She shared an Instagram story, originally posted by influencer Matt Bernstein, stating: “the drag queens at the olympics were re-creating the feast of dionysus, not the last supper.”

The post continued, “and even if you thought it was a christian reference – what’s the harm? why is it a “parody” and not a tribute? can drag queens not be christian too?”

Jodie also shared a video of a comedian explaining the performance depicted Dionysus, not The Last Supper.

The actress added her own caption: “Tell me you don’t know about art or history, without TELLING me you don’t know about art and history…”

Clash with Former Full House Co-star Candace Cameron Bure

Sweetin’s defense of the opening ceremony followed criticism from her former “Full House” co-star Candace Cameron Bure, who condemned the banquet scene.

The devout Christian, who played D.J. Tanner, expressed in a video at the time, “The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy. It’s the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the title.”

Bure continued, “So to watch such an incredible and wonderful event that’s gonna take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting.”

“And it made me so sad. And someone said, “You shouldn’t be sad. You should be mad about it.” And I’m like, “Trust me. It makes me mad.” But I’m more sad, because I’m sad for souls.”

Last year in July, Sweetin challenged the backlash over the opening ceremony at the Paris Olympics which saw a controversial depiction of Leonardo da Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper

The actress added her own caption which read, ‘Tell me you don’t know about art or history, without TELLING me you don’t know about art and history…’

And in the caption, Candace wrote, “You asked me to make this shareable on story, so here it is. My take on the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.”

“Since posting, many have tried to correct me saying it wasn’t about an interpretation of DaVinci’s The Last Supper, but a Greek god and the festival of Dionysus; who is a god of lust, insanity, religious ecstasy, ritual madness etc.”

She added, “I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and acceptable for children to watch.”

“In any case, I’m not buying it. I hope you’ll listen all the way through. God loves each and every one of you and His desire is for you to know Him. I won’t stop praying and calling on Jesus’ name.”

And in 2023, Jodie had expressed her ‘disappointment’ that her
