Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts has stated his intention to visit the White House with his team next week to commemorate their World Series victory, a decision which contrasts with his absence from a similar occasion in 2019 with the Boston Red Sox.

Dodgers to Visit White House to Celebrate World Series Win

The Dodgers are scheduled to meet with the former President on Monday to celebrate their 2024 World Series championship prior to their game against the Washington Nationals. Following Betts’s previous decision to decline a White House invitation as a Red Sox champion six years prior, his participation this year was uncertain.

However, in comments to the LA Times, Betts affirmed his attendance on Monday, indicating that the Dodgers anticipate full team participation.

Betts Addresses Political Interpretations

‘Regardless of my words or actions, some will interpret it politically,’ he commented. ‘This isn’t about personal views; I don’t want to make it about myself.’

‘Being a Black individual in America in this situation brings inherent complexities. It’s a challenging position to navigate.’

‘Irrespective of my choice, there will be individuals who disagree. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I reiterate, this is not about personal politics. This is about the Dodgers organization. It’s about showing solidarity with my teammates, this team. That is my sole focus.’

Mookie Betts confirms his White House visit with the Dodgers.

Regret over 2019 Absence

Betts mentioned he felt regret for not attending the White House ceremony in 2019.

Manager Dave Roberts on Team Unity

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also spoke with the Times, stating: ‘There was no intention to pressure any individual. We maintain that this is a baseball-related event for our team. It’s a traditional acknowledgment. And we are participating together as a united team. I am enthusiastic about that.’

Nationals Series to Follow

The Dodgers are set to begin a three-game series against the Nationals on Monday in Washington.
