Police were alerted to the stabbing at approximately 2:45 pm on Thursday, responding to reports from Ramsden Street in Huddersfield town centre. Upon arrival, officers discovered a teenage boy who had sustained a single, critical stab wound to the neck. Despite being immediately transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment, the 16-year-old tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Arrest and Charges
Following initial inquiries, West Yorkshire Police arrested Alfie Franco, 20, of Kirkburton. He has now been charged with murder and also with possession of a bladed article in a public place. Franco is scheduled to appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Saturday for his initial court hearing.
Further Arrests and Police Statement
In connection with the ongoing investigation, two additional individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender. A 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both arrested in relation to the incident, have since been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Alison Lowe, the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in West Yorkshire, described the death of the young boy as an “absolute tragedy.”
Speaking further on the issue of knife crime, Ms. Lowe stated, “Despite several instances of young people losing their lives to knife crime across West Yorkshire in recent years, it remains, thankfully, a relatively infrequent occurrence.”
