Brighton Detective Drama Grace Returns to ITV: Season 5 Promises Gripping Start for Roy Grace
Grace Season 5: Dramatic Start Revealed by John Simm
Actor John Simm has hinted at a tense and emotionally charged beginning for the fifth season of the popular ITV crime drama, Grace. The new season is set to premiere this Sunday, April 6th.
Simm Teases “Traumatic” Opening on The One Show
During a recent appearance on BBC One’s The One Show, Simm, who portrays the lead role of Detective Roy Grace, shared insights into the upcoming episodes. He revealed that season five opens slightly later in the timeline than viewers might expect, immediately confronting Grace and his wife Cleo Morey, played by Zoe Tapper, with a devastating personal tragedy.
“It commences a little further ahead in time, and unfortunately, viewers will learn that Roy and Cleo have experienced the heart-wrenching loss of their baby. It’s a decidedly traumatic commencement,” Simm explained during the broadcast.
He further added, “Moreover, they are grappling with the emergence of a son they were previously unaware of, a storyline that stemmed from the conclusion of the previous series when they encountered the hospital. Consequently, they are navigating multiple distressing situations right from the outset.”
Episodes Inspired by Peter James’ Best-Selling Novels
Season Five will consist of four feature-length episodes, each drawing inspiration from the acclaimed detective novels by author Peter James. The episodes will adapt the plots of Dead If You Don’t, Dead At First Sight, Need You Dead, and Find Them Dead. Each episode will be directed by a different director, promising a varied visual and stylistic approach.
Peter James Hails “Astounding” Success of Grace
Peter James, the creator of the Roy Grace novels, expressed his enthusiasm for the show’s continued success. In a statement released by ITV, he remarked, “The broadcast of the initial Grace episode in 2021 represented a dream realized. It is both deeply gratifying and astonishing to witness the series reaching its fifth season already!”
“The ongoing triumph of Grace is a testament to the exceptional talents of the cast, spearheaded by John Simm, and the dedicated production team. Equally vital are the viewers who have embraced these characters both in literary form and now on screen. It also reflects ITV’s commitment to faithfully translating the essence of both the characters and narratives from the novels.”
