Thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across every US state and around the world today, demonstrating against the Trump administration. Some 1,500 “Hands Off” protests are being held today in the USA alone, as opponents of President Trump and Elon Musk voice their displeasure at the radical measures launched by the White House since the January 20 inauguration.

Despite the thousands of demos around the US, today the President competed in and won the second round of the Senior Club Championships at his Trump National Jupiter club. A White House briefing said the President is through to Sunday’s Championship round.

Meanwhile, MoveOn, one of the organisations behind the wave of demonstrations, said: “This is a nationwide mobilization to stop the most brazen power grab in modern history. Trump, Musk and their billionaire cronies are orchestrating an all-out assault on our government, our economy and our basic rights – enabled by Congress every step of the way.”

The protests come amid global financial turmoil following President Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on almost every state the US trades with. However, the White House’s recent mass imposition of import taxes is just one of the reasons protesters have said they are on the streets.

Protesters have carried placards slamming President Trump and Elon Musk’s quick-fire slashing of the size of the federal government.

Since taking office, President Trump and the Tesla founder – who heads up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – have sacked thousands of federal staff and closed down whole government agencies, like USAID, which provides foreign aid.

Demonstrators also appear to be protesting against President Trump’s explicit desire to turn Canada into the 51st state, claim Greenland from Denmark, and take over the Panama Canal.

Jamie Raskin, the Democratic representative for the US state of Maryland told protesters in Washington DC: “Hands off Canada. That’s an independent country. Hands off Panama. That’s an independent country. Statehood for Washington, DC!”

Images have been shared of protests across the country, with dense crowds pictured in major cities like Boston and New York, small states like Delaware, and the US’ most populous state, California.

As well as protests across America, demonstrations are taking place in Canada and Mexico, according to Reuters. There are also thousands gathered in London, as well as protesters outside the US embassy in Berlin.
