Raising Awareness for Endometriosis

Woolhouse continued, ‘It turned out to be a more substantial operation than initially anticipated, but ultimately, everything is fine. Despite March being Endometriosis Awareness Month, and acknowledging my slight delay, it remains crucial to continue highlighting this condition which still lacks sufficient recognition and open discussion.’

She emphasized, ‘Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, and for many, securing a diagnosis is a protracted, emotionally taxing, and painful ordeal. Living with it can be incredibly debilitating.’

Recounting her personal experience, Woolhouse stated, ‘I initially received my diagnosis in 2017 following years of persistent consultations with general practitioners. My first surgery was in 2018, which provided symptom relief for a couple of years. Regrettably, it recurred, leading to recent disappointments and necessitating this subsequent surgery. I sincerely hope this will be the definitive solution.’

Understanding Endometriosis

According to the NHS, endometriosis is characterized by the growth of cells similar to the uterine lining outside of the uterus.

Woolhouse expressed her gratitude to the hospital staff for their exceptional care during her procedure. She also humorously referenced a photograph in her social media series, which depicted her resting and watching a popular television program.

‘Sincere thanks to the incredible team at @cromwellhospital for their attentive care. And thankfully for ‘MAFS’ on my iPad (no judgements please!).’

She extended a message of solidarity, ‘Sending love and support to everyone navigating endometriosis, or those on the challenging path to diagnosis – persevere.’
