The unions are seeking a 19% wage increase spread over three years and a reduction in the working week to 35 hours. Furthermore, they are pushing for more flexible working arrangements and improved workplace organization.

However, the meeting yielded no progress in resolving the dispute. According to reports in the Majorca Daily Bulletin, the talks “widened the gap between the two sides.” Employers have accused the unions of “absolute inaction,” while union representatives have denounced the employers’ counter-proposals as a regressive step.
May Day Rally and Potential Industrial Action
Both the UGT and CCOO are mobilizing for a large-scale May Day rally to increase pressure on employers. They are also preparing for further actions, including potential industrial strikes, should an agreement not be reached by the negotiating deadline of May 27. Union Leader Criticizes Employer Stance
José García Relucio, General Secretary of UGT, asserted that the employers’ proposals were unviable, stating, “No union would sign that.” He further added, “It seems that all they are trying to do is undermine the negotiating process.”
Hotelier Federation Responds
The Mallorca Hoteliers Federation, representing the employers, is taking a firm stance in the negotiations. María José Aguiló, executive vice president, stated, “We are very clear that we are not going to discuss salary increases until we have assessed the financial implications of the measures they are proposing.”
Javier Vich, president of the federation, previously described the union’s demand for a 19% pay rise over three years as “unacceptable.”

The ongoing negotiations involve approximately 180,000 workers throughout Majorca and the wider Balearic Islands. These include staff employed in hotels, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs, representing a significant portion of the islands’ tourism-dependent workforce.
