There are conditions attached to this generous offer; recipients are required to commit to residing in the renovated property or renting it out for a minimum of ten years. Failure to adhere to this stipulation will necessitate the repayment of the grant.
The scheme also permits applicants to seek contributions for the renovation of up to three properties within each participating village. However, to ensure affordability and community benefit, rental prices must be maintained at a “moderate” level.
Renovation Guidelines and Eligibility
It is important to note that renovation expenses are capped at €200,000. This financial limit means that new property owners cannot spend more than €120,000 of their own funds on property improvements. Eligibility criteria for the program stipulate that individuals already residing within the Trentino region and are under 45 years of age are not eligible to participate, according to reports from CNN.

In an official statement, the Trentino province explained that the initiative is “a measure aimed at creating an identity community network in contexts of strong depopulation.” Maurizio Fugatti, the president of Trento, characterized the project as an “experimental action” specifically designed to “strengthen social cohesion in the Trentino area,” as reported by the Mirror.
