GMB viewers 'switch off' as Susanna Reid sparks outrage with brutal Meghan Markle dig

Importance Score: 30 / 100 🔵

Good Morning Britain (GMB) presenter Susanna Reid has once again drawn criticism for her remarks concerning Meghan Markle. During a recent broadcast of the ITV breakfast program, while discussing President Donald Trump’s import tariffs with co-host Ed Balls, Reid redirected the conversation to the Duchess of Sussex’s new lifestyle brand, As Ever, on Thursday, April 3rd.

Discussion on Meghan Markle’s Brand ‘As Ever’

Markle’s brand, As Ever, recently launched a collection of jams and baked goods, experiencing rapid sales with some items quickly selling out. During the segment, Susanna Reid commented, “Although I believe they are technically classified as fruit spreads,” as Ed Balls chuckled in the background.

Highlighting the price points, Reid pointed out the honey’s £22 price tag, prompting Balls to exclaim, “What? £11 for a jar of jam? £11? How much does that work out per serving?” Reid further scrutinized the products, stating, “These jam jars appear to be quite small. But as we reported yesterday, when discussing this with Lorraine, these are, frankly, historic items of royal significance. Who wouldn’t want to acquire them?”

Panel’s Reaction and Viewer Backlash

Reid proceeded to ask the panel if they had placed orders for any of the As Ever items, revealing that none had. One guest panelist admitted, “I reviewed the program for Lorraine, and while I am generally supportive of Meghan, the program is absolutely terrible. Truly terrible. However, credit to her, if she aims to establish a business and consumers are purchasing her products, then why not?”

However, viewers at home reacted negatively to the on-air discussion, with many suggesting the ITV presenters were mocking Markle and her new venture.

Social Media Criticism

  • One viewer expressed their sentiment on X/Twitter, stating: “Do these ‘adults’ realize how absurd they sound?! Criticizing her for products that are out of stock, clearly indicating she knows what she is doing. Including a few insincere ‘good for her’ phrases, like playground bullies! #GMB.”
  • Another viewer commented on X/Twitter, “@GMB is excessively left-leaning and ‘woke,’ making it unwatchable! I will no longer be tuning in. #GMB.”
  • A further comment read: “I genuinely do not comprehend what @GMB and the Lorraine Kelly show aim to accomplish through their persistent criticism and verbal ‘bullying’ of Meghan, practically daily, for their own amusement. It is absurd how they continually target this woman. @reallorraine.”
  • “Bloody hell, here we go again with @GMB and Susanna Reid and their fixation on Meghan,” another individual vented online.
  • Yet another viewer posted: ” #GMB discussing trade deals and Susanna still managed to take a jab at Meghan Markle.”

Programme Air Time

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1.
