Tsunoda Notes Marko’s Silence After Red Bull Team Shift

Formula 1 driver Yuki Tsunoda has acknowledged it is “noteworthy” that he has yet to speak with Helmut Marko, a key figure at Red Bull Racing, following his recent promotion within the team. The young driver expressed surprise at the lack of communication, given Marko’s usual involvement in driver development programs.

Marko, in his role as senior advisor for Red Bull, maintains close ties with Max Verstappen and plays a crucial role in overseeing the careers of Red Bull’s junior drivers. His typical hands-on approach usually involves direct communication with drivers under his purview.

Despite Tsunoda’s upcoming debut race in his new capacity with the team, stepping in for Liam Lawson, Marko has not yet contacted him. This silence is perceived as unexpected by the Formula 1 talent.

Initial Communication from Team Leadership

Tsunoda revealed that his initial communication regarding the team change came from team principal Christian Horner shortly after the China race.

“The first call I received was from Christian directly after China, indicating I should prepare for a potential shift,” Tsunoda stated. He estimated this initial contact occurred around Tuesday following the race weekend.

Unusual Silence from Marko

Addressing the absence of contact from Marko, Tsunoda stated, “It’s quite surprising that [Marko] hasn’t called me yet; it’s very unusual behaviour,” Tsunoda commented. “I’m unsure if he’s occupied with other matters. I am eager to see him and observe his reaction to my move. It definitely feels different.”

Prior Interactions

Highlighting their typical interactions, he further elaborated on his past experiences with Marko: “From Formula 3 to Formula 1, he consistently contacted me. This time, however, there’s been no call. I am confident there are no underlying issues from his side, and we maintain a positive relationship. I am interested to see his response to this situation.”
