In Washington, D.C., at least six individuals were wounded on Thursday following a random stabbing incident. Authorities reported that an intoxicated suspect initiated the assault, targeting bystanders in the Trinidad neighborhood and also inflicting harm upon himself. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the incident.

Stabbing Incident in Trinidad Neighborhood

The incident occurred at approximately 3:22 p.m. in the Trinidad neighborhood of Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon. Law enforcement officers from the Metropolitan Police Department promptly responded to reports of the assault.

Police Discover Multiple Victims

Upon arriving at the scene, Metropolitan Police Department officers discovered multiple individuals suffering from stab wounds.

Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department addressed the media at a press conference, stating that the suspect appeared to be in an “altered mental state” potentially caused by an unknown substance.

Details of the Attack

According to Chief Smith’s account, “While walking along the street, the individual began by stabbing himself, subsequently attacking a female acquaintance who was accompanying him.”

Six victims, comprising four women and two men, were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment due to the unprovoked assault.

Victims’ Condition and Good Samaritans

As of Thursday evening, all victims were reported to be in stable condition.

Among the injured were two individuals recognized as good Samaritans who intervened to protect others from the assailant.

Chief Smith acknowledged their bravery but advised caution in such situations: “Despite our gratitude for their intervention, we urge individuals witnessing similar incidents to refrain from intervening directly. While their intentions were commendable, these two good Samaritans also sustained stab wounds during the assault.”

Attempted Assault on Grandmother and Granddaughters

Chief Smith further mentioned that the suspect also “attempted to assault” a grandmother and her two granddaughters, though details regarding potential injuries to them were not immediately disclosed.

“The grandmother and her granddaughters were entering their vehicle, attending to their own affairs,” Smith explained.
