Christina Fulton Seeks Nicolas Cage’s Assistance Amid Son Weston’s Mental Health Struggles

Christina Fulton, former partner of actor Nicolas Cage, has publicly appealed for his support as their son, Weston Cage Coppola, grapples with a mental health crisis. The plea for help comes as Weston faces legal issues and has been ordered to undertake a mental health diversion program.

Fulton’s Public Plea for Support

Speaking to TMZ reporters on Wednesday, April 2nd, Fulton, 57, directly addressed her former partner with a heartfelt message.

“Care for my son. Our son,” she implored.

Fulton’s statement was made outside a Los Angeles court, where Weston, 34, received the order to participate in a mental health diversion program. This program is designed to offer treatment and support to individuals charged with crimes, serving as an alternative to traditional prosecution.

Weston Cage Coppola’s Legal and Mental Health Issues

In July 2024, reports confirmed Weston’s arrest for felony assault following an alleged incident in April. He was subsequently released on bond and entered a plea of not guilty to the assault charges. It was reported that Fulton sustained injuries during the incident while attempting to intervene and get Weston help during what she described as “a mental health crisis.”

Dismissed Lawsuit Against Nicolas Cage

Earlier in the year, Fulton initiated legal action against Cage, 62, alleging that he had been dismissive of Weston’s mental health challenges and had enabled what she described as his problematic behavior, according to court documents reviewed in February.

However, in March, the lawsuit was dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be reintroduced in court.

Addressing the dismissal and the court’s decision, Fulton told TMZ, “We had a very fair judge, and he mandated mental health diversion for Weston, which I am pleased about as it means he will receive assistance. I read my statement to the judge, which my son heard for the first time.”

“Heartbroken” but Seeking Accountability

Fulton expressed her deep sadness and love for Weston, stating she is “heartbroken.” She also indicated that he has not offered an apology or demonstrated “remorse” or taken “accountability” for his actions.

She recounted the events of Weston’s arrest in April 2024, alleging that Los Angeles Police Department officers “left me injured on the ground, bleeding from my eye… I required an ambulance and medical assistance.”

Advocacy for Mental Health and Police Reform

Fulton is now channeling her experience into advocacy for “mental health in Los Angeles” and “police reform.” She expressed a desire to collaborate with law enforcement to improve protocols for assisting victims in domestic violence situations.

“I am committed to continuing my work,” she declared after her court appearance. “I will remain engaged in this fight.”

Allegations Against Cage and His Response

In her February court filing, Fulton contended that Cage failed to intervene to support their son.

“Weston has a long-standing history of mental and psychological disorders, coupled with a pattern of violent assault and battery, harming numerous individuals,” Fulton stated in her legal documents. “Nicolas was aware of Weston’s history yet neglected to take action to prevent Weston from perpetrating violent acts and causing harm to others.”

Fulton further claimed that Cage had, on occasions, bailed Weston out of jail and covered the rent for Weston’s Los Angeles residence. She accused Cage of contributing to their son’s “reckless” lifestyle and failing to ensure he obtained “necessary psychiatric” care.

“Nicolas was aware, or should have been aware, that Weston posed a severe and imminent threat to others, including myself, given his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability,” Fulton’s lawsuit asserted.

Cage has refuted these accusations. In a statement issued in February, he stated, “Christina Fulton’s allegations against Nicolas Cage are baseless and without merit. Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old adult. Mr. Cage exerts no control over Weston’s conduct and bears no responsibility for Weston’s alleged assault against his mother.”

Fulton has previously explained that the incident with Weston originated from a verbal argument that escalated into physical violence.

In July 2024, Fulton detailed the events of the incident, stating, “On April 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., I received urgent communications from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his declining mental state, imploring me to come and assist.”

She added, “Upon arriving to offer support and comfort, I found him already in the throes of a manic episode.”

Fulton told Us at the time she “was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries. Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental health evaluation, the police officers refused my request and neglected my urgent need for my medical attention.”

Cage’s Family and Previous Relationships

Cage has not publicly commented on Weston’s legal matters. He and Fulton welcomed Weston in December 1990, but separated shortly thereafter. Cage is also father to son Kal-El, with his former wife, Alice Kim, from whom he divorced in 2016. He is currently married to Riko Shibata since February 2021, and they have a daughter named August, born in 2022.
