Motorola Unveils Edge 60 Fusion Mid-Range Smartphone with Unique Canvas Design

Motorola has introduced the Edge 60 Fusion, the inaugural device in its Edge 60 mid-range series, distinguished by an innovative faux-canvas rear. Sporting a sculpted camera housing and a remarkably slender profile, the Edge 60 Fusion’s core specifications align with its accessible price point of £299.99 (approximately $390) in the UK market.

Distinctive Design and Durability

Canvas-Effect Finish and Color Options

The phone’s canvas-textured exterior is a key aesthetic element, exclusively featured on the “amazonite” (teal) variant. Alongside this signature model, the Edge 60 Fusion is also available in blue and pink hues, these versions utilizing a faux leather texture instead. Regardless of the chosen finish, all models boast IP68 and IP69 certifications, providing robust protection against dust ingress, water submersion, and high-pressure water jets.

Slim Profile and Robust Battery

While specifications may differ slightly across international markets, the UK-bound Edge 60 Fusion maintains a thin build, measuring less than 8mm in thickness. This slender design is achieved despite incorporating a substantial 5,200mAh battery behind its expansive 6.67-inch OLED display. Certain international models will feature an even larger 5,500mAh battery, resulting in a marginally thicker form factor.

Internal Specifications and Camera Capabilities

Performance and Storage

The Fusion offers configurations with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. Performance is driven by a mid-tier MediaTek Dimensity chipset – either the 7300 or 7400, contingent on the specific region. Performance differences between these chipsets are expected to be minimal.

Camera System

The rear camera array may visually suggest a quad-camera setup; however, this includes a flash module and a flicker sensor. The primary camera system comprises a 50-megapixel main lens and a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, providing capable photographic functionalities.

Edge 60 Series and Market Availability

Expanding the Edge Lineup

The Edge 60 Fusion is anticipated to spearhead a broader Edge 60 series, building upon the previous year’s Edge 50 range, which encompassed five distinct models. Similar to its predecessors, the Edge 60 line is not expected to be released in the US market. American consumers may consider the Moto G Power, launched in January at $299.99, as an alternative, albeit lacking the Fusion’s OLED screen and canvas feel, while offering wireless charging. Motorola is also projected to soon announce updated iterations of its Razr foldable smartphones, with speculations pointing towards a wooden finish, reminiscent of the Moto X from 2014.
