Nate Thompson Responds After Kristin Cavallari Publicly Discusses Past Romance
Former NHL player Nate Thompson has addressed Kristin Cavallari’s recent revelation about their past romantic relationship. The reality TV personality and podcast host disclosed details of their connection earlier this week, and Thompson has now shared his reaction.
Thompson’s Reaction to Cavallari’s Podcast Disclosure
On Tuesday’s episode of his “Energy Line” podcast, just hours after Cavallari confirmed their relationship as one of her ‘deepest’ to date, Thompson, 40, spoke out about her decision to make their previously private history public.
Despite successfully keeping their romance secret during their time together, Thompson acknowledged that he anticipated the information would eventually surface.
“Thatβs her world,” Thompson stated, referring to Cavallari’s public persona. “Thatβs what she does, and her podcast, obviously… is pretty big, and she talks about her relationships, so I knew it was probably gonna come out, eventually.”
Positive Remarks and Acceptance
The former Boston Bruins player had complimentary words for his ex-girlfriend, stating, “I have nothing bad to say about Kristin. She’s a really, really good person and great mom and yeah, it was fun.”
Thompson further reiterated his comfort with Cavallari openly discussing their past. He indicated he was “fine” with her candor regarding their relationship history.
Cavallari’s Account of the Relationship
On her podcast, the reality TV personality, 38, described Thompson as a “great guy” before explaining that they ended their relationship because of a missing element.
In her recent podcast episode, Cavallari mentioned that she felt comfortable naming the retired NHL player because online observers, whom she playfully called ‘TikTok detectives,’ had already identified him as her former boyfriend.
She noted that social media users had “pieced together” clues she had shared during a conversation with Bunnie Xo on her “Dumb Blonde” podcast in December 2024.
“I don’t even care,” she said on her podcast, explaining her decision to now speak openly. “I said his name on [my podcast] tour. I really think he’s such a great guy.”
She further commented, “He is someone who has done a lot of work on himself.”
Deep Connection and Intimacy
Cavallari emphasized the profound nature of their bond, sharing that she and the former hockey player “connected on such a deep level.”
She even characterized their fling as “one of the deeper relationships” she has experienced, despite its brevity.
“We didn’t hold back on anything,” she revealed about their romance. “We told each other everything.”
Speaking enthusiastically about Thompson, Cavallari described their connection as “honest, pure, amazing.”
Long Distance and Reasons for Breakup
Cavallari explained that much of their relationship was conducted through “voice notes, FaceTime calls, phone calls, texting” due to its “mostly long distance” nature.
She then disclosed the reasons for their separation and stated her intention to avoid dating athletes who are still actively competing.
“That attraction piece for me has to be so on fire for me to want to be with someone,” she elaborated on her dating criteria.
“I have gone out with amazing men, and this guy is a good example of that. Why can’t I fall in love with you?” she posed, reflecting on past dating experiences.
She admitted that while she found the ex-hockey player “attractive” and felt compatibility in other areas, she lacked a certain “flame” or spark.
“I need in the beginning to want to rip your clothes off,” she humorously explained, adding, “I need compatibility and chemistry.”
Cavallari clarified, “I understand that what I’m searching for is rare, [but] I’m not gonna settle for anything less than exactly what I want.”
The podcast host mentioned enjoying his visit to her for New Year’s several months prior but hinted at their relationship concluding shortly thereafter.
Cavallari’s Dating History Post-Divorce
Cavallari’s previous long-term relationship was with former quarterback Jay Cutler. They were together for a decade, married for seven years, before separating in 2020 and finalizing their divorce two years later.
Cavallari and Cutler share three children: sons Camden, 12, Jaxon, 10, and daughter Saylor, nine.
Since her divorce, she has been romantically linked to comedian Jeff Dye and country singer Chase Rice.
Leading up to her romance with Thompson, she dated TikTok star Mark Estes, 24, for seven months in 2024, a relationship that garnered attention for their 14-year age difference.
Cavallari has also mentioned a potential connection with country singer Morgan Wallen and possibly actor Jason Statham, according to a recent TikTok video.
Dating App and Past Hookups
Cavallari shared that she has reactivated her Raya dating app account but clarified she is not engaging in casual dating extensively.
The former “Laguna Beach” star told her audience that she has actually had “absurd[ly]” few romances since her divorce from Jay Cutler.
