Google Gemini App Leadership Transition: Sissie Hsaio Steps Down
Sissie Hsaio, a Google executive instrumental in the launch of the company’s Gemini app, an AI chatbot, is departing from her role as head of the application. Reports indicate that Josh Woodward, the current vice president of Google Labs, will assume her responsibilities, according to a memo obtained by news outlets.
Leadership Shift to Focus on Gemini App Evolution
In a memo, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis conveyed that the leadership change aims to “sharpen the focus on the next evolution of the Gemini app.” This strategic move underscores Google’s ongoing commitment to refining and advancing its AI chatbot technology. A Google spokesperson verified the reports of the personnel change but refrained from providing additional remarks.
Hsaio’s Long-Standing Career at Google
Having dedicated almost 20 years to Google, Hsaio initially joined the tech giant in 2006 as a product manager for Search and Docs. Google designated Hsaio as the head of Gemini apps in 2021. During her tenure, she notably spearheaded the launch of Bard – the company’s initial offering and direct competitor to ChatGPT. Hsaio communicated in her memo that she will be taking a “short break” before returning to Google in a different capacity, as reported.
