Country Star Morgan Wallen’s Abrupt “SNL” Exit Sparks Online Criticism

Country music performer Morgan Wallen is facing renewed scrutiny after his sudden departure from the set of “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). The 31-year-old singer triggered a wave of online debate when he walked offstage during the closing moments of the live broadcast.

Wallen’s Stage Exit During Goodnights

As musical guest for the evening, Wallen stood alongside host Mikey Madison during the customary goodnights, with the ensemble cast gathered behind them.

However, the “Whiskey Glasses” vocalist then leaned in to Madison, 26, whispered inaudibly, offered a brief one-armed embrace, and exited the stage while the rest of the cast celebrated the show’s conclusion.

Social Media Backlash and Aftermath

Following his unexpected exit, Wallen shared an image of a private jet on his Instagram story, accompanied by the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” He apparently did not attend the show’s afterparty.

Fan Reactions and Social Media Commentary

Morgan Wallen with a little more of the catty-a– petty loser sh-t he so proudly displayed running offstage down the center aisle & right past the camera at SNL curtain call,” one observer commented on X.

“This & the tone-deaf private jet flaunt couldn’t be more lame & undercutting coming from a country star,” they further stated.

Another user on X remarked, “Weird – Morgan Wallen didn’t turn around to say anything to anyone – he looked like he was ready to be out of there.”

One viewer posted, “Morgan Wallen said I didn’t want to be here either. That’s exactly what the show gets for having him in the first place. #SNL,”

Another individual wrote, “Hope the tantrum was worth it because you’ll NEVER be on #SNL again.”

A different viewer suggested Wallen appeared “sour” throughout the program, claiming both musical performances “were angry and weird.” They also deemed his stage departure as “disrespectful.”

Source Alleges Misunderstanding Regarding Exit

However, an unnamed source reportedly close to Wallen informed TMZ that his hasty exit was unintentional.

According to the insider, Wallen “entered and exited the studio the same way he did Saturday night during rehearsal and camera blocking all week leading up to the live show … so he routinely headed that way when he thought it was time to go.”

Wallen’s History with “SNL” and Past Controversies

Wallen’s previous SNL appearance was in December 2020, occurring after he was previously uninvited from the show in October 2020. The initial disinvitation followed his being caught partying in Alabama without adhering to mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During his subsequent appearance, Wallen participated in a comedic sketch that referenced the prior controversy.

In 2021, Wallen faced further controversy after a video surfaced on TMZ showing him using a racial slur.

He issued a public apology for the incident, stating, “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
