Fatal Shooting on Miami-Dade Transit Bus Claims Two Lives

A shooting incident aboard a Miami-Dade Transit bus in Miami Gardens resulted in the deaths of two men early Sunday. The violent episode involved the bus operator and passengers.

Law enforcement officials responded to reports at a shopping center located at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and 183rd Street at approximately 2:50 a.m. The location is situated in Miami Gardens, a suburb north of Miami.

Details of the Incident

According to a statement released by Miami Gardens Police to national media outlets, a preliminary inquiry indicates that the bus driver engaged in a verbal altercation. Subsequently, the driver discharged a firearm multiple times within the bus, fatally wounding two passengers.

Authorities stated that the injured men were transported by air ambulance to Aventura Hospital in critical condition. They were later pronounced deceased due to the severity of their injuries.

Eyewitness Account and Police Statement

Miami Gardens Police spokesperson Diani Delgado informed a local news channel that the dispute initiated inside the stationary bus. The situation escalated when the bus driver brandished a weapon and shot the two passengers. Officials confirmed that the driver was apprehended and taken into custody for questioning.

An eyewitness, identified as Wabe God, told a local news outlet that he heard six gunshots while leaving a nearby store, believing he heard the shots as they were fired.

β€œThey were on a county bus, likely en route to their destinations, when someone made the decision to end their lives,” God stated. β€œI am deeply concerned about the violence occurring in my community… It is unfair to the residents here and to the families of those affected.”

Investigation Underway

The motivation behind the shooting is currently under active investigation. However, spokesperson Delgado indicated that it is believed to be an isolated incident.

β€œI do not believe there is cause for broad community alarm,” Delgado conveyed to local media.

The Miami Gardens Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation. The identities of those involved have not yet been disclosed.
