Television personality Jeremy Clarkson is openly documenting his efforts to lose weight, revealing the challenges and shifts in his lifestyle necessitated by recent health concerns. The 64-year-old presenter previously disclosed undergoing heart surgery, a critical intervention that addressed a potentially life-threatening cardiac issue. This experience has spurred Clarkson to prioritize his well-being and explore various weight management strategies.
Weight Loss Attempts and Health Challenges
Clarkson’s pursuit of a healthier physique has been marked by both setbacks and adjustments. In an article for The Times, he detailed his experience using Ozempic, a medication primarily intended for type 2 diabetes. He initiated this treatment two years prior, aiming to reduce his weight, but discontinued it after experiencing adverse effects. Ozempic, while designed for diabetes management, has gained attention for its weight loss side effect, leading some individuals to use it for slimming purposes, even though it is not officially marketed as a weight loss drug.
Ozempic Experience
The former Who Wants To Be A Millionaire host described a difficult adjustment to the medication, stating, “My body lost the ability to handle overeating, but my mind still craved indulgent foods.”
He elaborated on the unpleasant side effects: “This resulted in frequent sickness. Paradoxically, after being ill, I reasoned that I had created space for more food, leading to further consumption.”
Clarkson mentioned that his Ozempic trial lasted approximately six months, after which he found himself slightly heavier than when he started. He then transitioned to “micro-dosing” Mounjaro, another medication for type 2 diabetes. This new approach has shown initial positive signs over the past three months.
Transition to Mounjaro and Dietary Discipline
The Grand Tour presenter highlighted a change in his eating habits, noting increased self-control around food. “I can now open the refrigerator, observe the various tempting items inside, and then simply close it. Although I haven’t yet lost weight, it seems logical that reducing my significant intake of chocolate and red meat will eventually lead to weight loss.”
Despite his optimism regarding future weight reduction, Clarkson admitted to some frustration with his decreased appetite for treats. Having largely eliminated chocolate, he has shifted to consuming smaller portions of more luxurious snacks.
New Eating Habits and Exotic Food Choices
Detailing his revised dietary preferences, he mentioned an unusual food discovery: “I’ve also started eating snail caviar, which is essentially unhatched snails. Surprisingly, it possesses a taste and texture similar to traditional caviar.”
Snail Caviar as a Gourmet Treat
He humorously commented on this unconventional food choice: “A teaspoon of snail caviar on half a Ritz cracker offers a contemporary take on a medieval feast.”
Health Motivations and Lifestyle Overhaul
Clarkson acknowledged the direct connection between his health and lifestyle choices, recalling the impact of receiving a stent. Motivated by his well-being and the recent arrival of his second granddaughter in December, he is committed to modifying his previously rich diet, which he described in January as including significant amounts of alcohol, red meat, and cigarettes.
Dietician’s Advice and Current Well-being
“I currently feel very healthy,” Clarkson stated. “I consulted a dietician who provided straightforward advice: ‘Avoid processed foods. If a food item contains multiple ingredients, abstain from eating it.’ Following this guidance, I feel excellent.”
