Ruben Amorim Dismisses Bruno Fernandes Transfer Speculation

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes will remain at the club this summer, according to manager Ruben Amorim, despite recent reports linking the Portuguese midfielder with a move to Real Madrid. Fernandes has been a key performer for Manchester United this season, contributing significantly with 16 goals and a further 81 assists in 277 appearances for the team.

Fernandes’ Importance to Manchester United

Fernandes has consistently been a standout player for Manchester United, particularly this season, where he has scored 16 goals in 44 appearances. Notably, seven of these goals have come in his last seven games. His overall record for United is impressive, with 95 goals and 81 assists across 277 matches.

Amorim’s Firm Stance on Fernandes’ Future

Addressing reports linking Fernandes with a transfer to Real Madrid, Amorim stated definitively, “No, it’s not going to happen.” He emphasized that the club is not considering letting go of their captain despite speculation about a potential move.

Manchester United’s Ambitions and Fernandes’ Role

Since Fernandes’ arrival in January 2020, Manchester United has struggled to consistently challenge for top honors like the Champions League or the Premier League title. Currently, they sit 13th in the Premier League standings. Amorim acknowledged the challenge of keeping a player of Fernandes’ caliber motivated amidst the club’s current position. He stated, “That is the challenge. I want Bruno here because we want to win the Premier League again so we want the best players.”

Amorim further highlighted Fernandes’ commitment and fitness, noting, “He’s [30] but still so [fit], plays 55 games every season and between assists and goals he’s there for 30 at least, so he’s not going anywhere.”

Control Over Fernandes’ Situation and Player Satisfaction

When questioned about his certainty regarding Fernandes staying, Amorim asserted, “We are in control of the situation and I feel that he is really happy here.” He interpreted Fernandes’ visible frustration on the field not as discontent, but as “a sign he wants this [success] so bad.” Amorim concluded, “He’s not going anywhere because I’ve already told him.”

Marcus Rashford’s Loan and Future at Manchester United

Regarding Marcus Rashford, who was loaned to Aston Villa in January, Amorim explained the decision was due to dissatisfaction with the 27-year-old’s training performance. Rashford has since impressed at Aston Villa, earning a recall to the England national team and scoring his first goals since December, including in a recent FA Cup quarter-final victory.

Despite reports suggesting Rashford may not play for United again, Amorim remained open, stating, “He’s a top player, if he wants.” He drew parallels with Antony’s loan to Real Betis, viewing successful loan spells as “a good sign for the club.” While acknowledging future planning, Amorim preferred to “focus on the next game.”

Upcoming Match and Fan Protest

Manchester United’s next fixture is against Nottingham Forest. Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro are expected to be available for selection after recovering from injuries.

Following the recent derby match against Manchester City, fan group The 1958 plans a sit-in protest against rising ticket prices under the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s ownership. The group believes increased prices will displace long-term supporters.

Amorim’s Perspective on Fan Frustration

Amorim acknowledged the fans’ concerns, saying, “Everybody here [at United] can see that point of view, how frustrated they are.” He suggested that on-field success is the best way to address fan discontent, adding, “The only way I can help is by winning games, winning [the] Europa League, to have more money, more flexibility in the budget.”
