Thailand Tourism Declared Safe After Earthquake; Destinations Remain Unaffected

Following a powerful earthquake in the region, Thailand has affirmed the safety of its numerous tourist destinations for visitors. The Tourism Minister stated that no tourists sustained injuries, and popular tourist attractions remained unaffected by the seismic event.

Normal Operations Resume Across Tourist Infrastructure

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Tourism Minister conveyed that “travel, accommodations, and events are proceeding as scheduled. Safety inspections are underway to guarantee public safety. Tourist police are supervising key locations. There have been no travel cancellations.”

Airports Functioning Normally

International airports, including those serving Bangkok and the popular island of Phuket, have resumed standard operations, airport authorities announced. Prior to reopening, thorough inspections were conducted on terminals and runways to assess for any potential damage.

Tourism’s Economic Significance to Thailand

Tourism constitutes a significant 12% of Thailand’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provides employment for over 20% of the nation’s workforce, according to a statement delivered by the central bank governor last year.

Earthquake Impact and Casualties

The major earthquake, originating in Myanmar, has tragically resulted in 17 fatalities in Bangkok. Officials reported that at least 83 individuals remain missing, and 32 others have been reported injured as a consequence of the seismic activity.
