Mikey Madison Shakes Up “Saturday Night Live” with Pole Dancing Skills and Oscar Win Humor
Award-winning actress Mikey Madison, fresh off her Oscar victory, recently hosted “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) and playfully addressed critics who questioned her pole dancing abilities in the acclaimed film “Anora.” During her opening monologue on the late-night comedy show, Madison responded directly to doubters regarding her stunts in the movie and even staged a humorous pole dancing demonstration.
Addressing Pole Dancing Doubts
“I executed all my own stunts for the movie, encompassing all the dance sequences, so it genuinely bothers me when individuals presume it wasn’t actually me on the pole, because it was,” Madison, age 26, stated in her opening remarks.
“I can substantiate it immediately,” the performer added, proceeding towards a dancer’s pole positioned on the stage.
Humorous Pole Dancing Segment
The scene then transitioned to a robust individual sporting a brunette wig and Madison’s identical shimmering black attire, executing impressive spread-eagle handstands on the pole, which drew laughter from the audience.
“Anora” Success and Oscar Recognition
In “Anora,” directed by Sean Baker, Madison portrays a New York City stripper who marries the affluent son of a Russian oligarch. The movie garnered significant acclaim, securing five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Madison’s compelling portrayal. Prior to the Oscars, industry experts had speculated that Demi Moore might secure Best Actress for her role in “The Substance.”
Oscar Acceptance and Support for Sex Workers
In her Oscar acceptance speech on March 2nd, Madison paid tribute to her fellow nominees – Demi Moore, Karla Sofia Gascón, Cynthia Erivo, and Fernanda Torres – and described her win as “a dream realized.” She also dedicated a portion of her speech to acknowledge and support the sex worker community.
“Indeed, I will continue to advocate and be an ally. All of the remarkable individuals, the women I’ve had the privilege of encountering from that community, have been among the highlights of this extraordinary experience,” she expressed.
Post-Oscars “Crazy Month” and Relaxed Persona
During her SNL monologue, Madison revealed she experienced a “hectic month” following the Oscars, adding, “so in April, I plan to sleep.”
“As you can observe, I maintain a rather laid-back demeanor in reality, and I endeavor to integrate that into all my roles,” she remarked, as a montage of her intense scenes from “Anora,” “Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood,” and “Scream 5” played.
“Just for clarification, those depicted two distinct characters who were set ablaze, demonstrating range,” Madison humorously clarified.
From Horse Girl to Actress
The “Better Things” actress informed the audience that “growing up, I never genuinely intended to become an actor.”
Homeschooling and Horse Obsession
“When I was younger, I was a very proud, self-proclaimed horse girl,” Madison continued. “A horse girl is essentially a nerd, but with elongated hair. I even pursued homeschooling to dedicate additional time at the barn.”
Humorous Childhood Costume
After displaying a childhood photograph of herself in a couple’s costume with her horse Thumbelina, Madison recounted, “We were costumed as jailbirds apprehended for the offense of stealing each other’s hearts. I know, it’s remarkably unbelievable that I was homeschooled, isn’t it?”
Morgan Wallen’s SNL Appearance
Madison’s SNL episode also featured country music artist Morgan Wallen as the musical guest. The 31-year-old singer exited the stage prior to Madison concluding the show.
