Klopp’s Red Bull Restructure Begins with Leipzig Manager Dismissal
Jurgen Klopp, in his new capacity as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull, has commenced restructuring efforts with his first significant decision: the dismissal of RB Leipzig head coach Marco Rose. This action comes despite previous support for Rose.
The former Liverpool manager transitioned back into football operations, assuming the Global Head of Soccer position at Red Bull in January, an agreement finalized in October. This appointment followed his departure from Liverpool at the end of the preceding season, despite having a contract extending to 2026. Klopp received a £9.4 million settlement upon resigning after nearly nine years at Anfield, paving the way for Arne Slot’s arrival.
Liverpool appears poised for continued success in their first season post-Klopp, with Slot aiming to secure the club’s second Premier League title in his debut season.
Klopp, however, has been actively engaged in his new mandate. His role encompasses shaping the strategic direction of clubs within the Red Bull group and collaborating with sporting directors on key footballing decisions.
His inaugural major decision involves RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. The club has parted ways with head coach Marco Rose, with Leipzig currently positioned sixth in the league standings.

Marco Rose (pictured), formerly RB Leipzig boss, has been relieved of his managerial duties.
Leipzig’s recent form, including a 1-0 defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach, contributed to the decision. They currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga table.
According to reports from German news outlet Bild, Klopp initially advocated for providing Rose with additional time to reverse the team’s fortunes, resisting calls for an earlier conclusion to his two-and-a-half-year tenure.
However, it appears that patience waned amongst key figures, reportedly including Klopp, following Leipzig’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach in their first match after the international break.
Rose’s assistants – Alexander Zickler, Frank Geideck, and Marco Kurth – have also departed, alongside staff member Frank Aehlig.
It is understood that Klopp and Red Bull are actively seeking an interim manager to lead the team until the end of the current season, with an official announcement anticipated shortly.
Leipzig’s Performance Concerns and Managerial Change
Leipzig’s recent performances have been inconsistent, jeopardizing their aspirations for Champions League qualification – typically considered a minimum objective for the club.
The team faced the prospect of dropping to seventh place in the league standings and currently occupies ninth position in the form table for the latter half of the season, highlighting a decline in performance.
Klopp’s Liverpool Return and Title Race Concerns
Consequently, Klopp faces an immediate challenge in identifying a suitable replacement for Rose. Adding to the narrative, Klopp recently disclosed his intentions to return to Liverpool this season but expressed concerns about potentially being a “jinx” as his former club competes for the Premier League title.
Having not returned to Merseyside since his Liverpool departure last season, the 57-year-old is now planning a visit, though likely towards the culmination of the current campaign.
Klopp officially commenced his role at Red Bull in January, several months after his Liverpool exit.
Klopp has expressed his desire to return to Liverpool, where he served as manager for nearly nine years.

‘Yes, the plan is to be in Liverpool, but not on the team bus,’ Klopp affirmed. ‘I intend to be there with the fans, the individuals I used to see during bus parades.’
‘That’s the idea, to be honest, but it remains to be seen. I believe I will attend the final game… I deliberately avoided going earlier, fearing I might jinx their progress.’
‘If I attend a game and they subsequently lose, it would be unfortunate. Therefore, I will go when the title outcome is decided.’
Slot’s Invitation and Klopp’s Anfield Return
Last month, Arne Slot revealed that he had extended two invitations to Klopp to return to the club, emphasizing that the former Liverpool figure is welcome at Anfield whenever he wishes to visit.
