George Clooney Debuts Brunette Hair for Broadway Role in New York City
Actor George Clooney was seen in New York City over the weekend, still showcasing a striking brunette hairstyle. The new hair color, adopted for his leading role in the Broadway play “Good Night, And Good Luck,” has garnered attention since its debut last month.
Concerns Over Wife Amal’s Reaction to New Look
Clooney previously admitted publicly to humorous concerns about how his wife, international human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, would react to his darker hair. He reportedly joked about her possible disapproval of the transformation.
Portraying Edward R. Murrow on Stage
The change in appearance is for Clooney’s portrayal of celebrated newsman Edward R. Murrow in the stage adaptation of “Good Night, And Good Luck.” The play, marking Clooney’s Broadway debut, is based on the 2005 film of the same title, which he directed and starred in.
In the film version, David Strathairn, now 76, played the role of Murrow. However, for the theatrical production, Clooney, aged 63, has taken on the central role of the esteemed news anchor.
He was observed heading to a Saturday matinee performance this week at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City, dressed in his signature sophisticated style. Clooney sported a charcoal suit paired with a black polo shirt, leather shoes, and sunglasses.

Family Anticipated to React Amusedly to Hair Transformation
Last month, while debuting the darker hair in NYC, Clooney shared his lighthearted worries that Amal, 47, and their seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, might not appreciate his updated look.
“My wife is going to dislike it because nothing ages a man faster than when an older man colors his hair,” Clooney stated in a February interview with the New York Times. “My children are simply going to relentlessly mock me.”
Clooney and Amal have been married since 2014. For his role as Edward R. Murrow, he needed to conceal his naturally graying hair with a dark brown dye.
It appears Clooney recently dyed his hair, as he was seen with his characteristic silver hair in New York City late last month, although he was wearing a hat at the time.

“Good Night, And Good Luck”: From Silver Screen to Broadway Stage
In “Good Night, And Good Luck,” Clooney embodies the role of the legendary journalist Edward R. Murrow. For the 2005 film adaptation, David Strathairn played the lead, while Clooney took on the supporting role of CBS President Fred Friendly, while also directing the movie.
The black-and-white film centered on Murrow’s reports exposing Senator Joseph McCarthy’s baseless accusations of communist infiltration within the U.S. government. This led to a confrontational exchange between the two figures on Murrow’s CBS broadcast, preceding the senator’s public humiliation at the ArmyโMcCarthy hearings and subsequent censure by the Senate.
The film boasted an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Daniels, Patricia Clarkson, Frank Langella, and Ray Wise.
Clooney’s “Good Night, And Good Luck” movie was a financial success, earning $54.6 million globally on a $7 million budget. It also received six Oscar nominations, although it did not win any awards.
Upcoming Projects: “Jay Kelly” Film
Alongside his lead role in “Good Night, And Good Luck” on Broadway, Clooney is involved in another significant film project. He is set to star in the ensemble dramedy “Jay Kelly,” marking his first collaboration with director Noah Baumbach, co-writer of “Barbie.”

The cast of “Jay Kelly” features a star-studded lineup, including Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Jim Broadbent, Greta Gerwig (Baumbach’s wife), and Emily Mortimer, who co-wrote the screenplay with Baumbach.
Details about the Netflix-distributed film, reportedly a coming-of-age story, are limited. Netflix has yet to announce the release plan, but Baumbach’s previous Netflix films have often received limited theatrical releases before streaming availability.
Before “Barbie,” Baumbach directed and wrote “White Noise” (an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s novel), the Oscar-winning “Marriage Story,” and “The Meyerowitz Stories” for Netflix.
