The governor explained that these conversations are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the Democratic Party. Maher referenced Senator John Fetterman’s warning about becoming a “permanent minority” if the party fails to unify, a sentiment Newsom echoed.
“These guys are crushing us, the Democratic brand is toxic right now,” Newsom remarked, referring to Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, underscoring the urgency for Democrats to reassess their approach.

Newsom acknowledged the controversial nature of some of his podcast guests. However, he defended his approach by questioning the notion of avoiding discussions with opposing viewpoints.
