In a significant development in the tech world, Elon Musk has finalized the sale of X, formerly known as Twitter, to his artificial intelligence venture, xAI, for a staggering $33 billion. This acquisition comes nearly three years after Musk’s initial purchase and subsequent rebranding of the social media platform.

Musk, aged 53, officially disclosed the transaction through a statement published on his X profile on Friday, March 28.
“The integrated entity values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion ($45B less $12B debt),” Musk detailed. “Since its inception two years prior, xAI has swiftly risen to prominence as a leading AI laboratory globally, constructing advanced models and data infrastructure with remarkable speed and breadth.”
He further elaborated, “X serves as the preeminent digital town square, attracting over 600 million active users seeking real-time, reliable information. Over the past two years, X has undergone a significant transformation into one of the most streamlined and productive organizations worldwide, positioning it for substantial expansion in the future.”

Musk emphasized the strategic rationale behind the acquisition, stating it was the appropriate juncture to “unite data resources, AI models, computational power, distribution networks, and expert personnel.”
Flashback to Twitter Acquisition in 2022
In April 2022, the Tesla CEO initially reached an agreement to acquire Twitter for approximately $44 billion.
“Free speech is the cornerstone of a robust democracy, and Twitter functions as the digital town square where discussions vital to humanity’s future unfold,” Musk asserted in a press release at the time of the initial purchase.
Musk outlined his vision for substantial platform enhancements in the press communication confirming the original acquisition.
“Furthermore, I aim to elevate Twitter’s functionality, introducing novel features, open-sourcing the algorithms to bolster user confidence, aggressively tackling spam bots, and implementing universal human authentication,” he explained. “Twitter possesses immense potential, and I am eager to collaborate with the company and its user base to fully realize it.”

Simultaneously, Musk’s personal life has also seen recent changes. The business magnate reportedly welcomed his fourteenth child in February with Shivon Zilis, marking his fourth child with her.

Further reports from February suggest author Ashley St. Clair announced via an X post the birth of Musk’s thirteenth child five months prior.
Additionally, Musk has six children with his former spouse, Justine Wilson. Musk and Wilson, 51, married from 2000 to 2008, are parents to twins Vivian and Griffin, 20, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, 18. They also had a son, Nevada, who tragically died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at ten weeks old in 2002.
Musk later began a relationship with Grimes (Claire Boucher) in 2018, with whom he shares three children. Their son, X Æ A-Xii, was born in May 2020. Their daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, arrived the following year via surrogacy.
