Severance Revolving Theory Captivates Apple TV+ Viewers
Fans of the acclaimed Apple TV+ series Severance are engrossed in deciphering the enigmatic “revolving” concept, sparking widespread speculation. The theory gained momentum on Reddit after Jame Eagan, portrayed by Michael Siberry, made a cryptic remark to Helly (Britt Lower): “One day you will sit with me at my revolving.” This line has fueled debate and conjecture among viewers eager to unravel the mysteries of Severance.
The Twilight Zone Connection and Consciousness Transfer Speculation
Intense fan discussions posit that the “revolving” concept could allude to a transfer of consciousness into a different physical form via the Severance chip technology. This theory draws parallels to The Twilight Zone episode “The After Hours,” which notably served as inspiration for the second season’s penultimate episode title of Severance.
In the 1960s Twilight Zone episode, mannequins cyclically inhabit human lives, which fans suggest mirrors a scenario where past Lumon CEOs might “revolve” utilizing comparable technology. Adding to this intriguing comparison, the Perpetuity Wing on the Severed Floor in Severance evokes a sense of similarity to the department store storage floor from The Twilight Zone, housing models of former CEOs that resemble inanimate mannequins.
Marc Geller on Fan Theories Surrounding Kier Eagan
Marc Geller, the actor who embodies Kier Eagan in Severance, addressed the swirling conjectures in a recent interview. “I’ve encountered theories suggesting his consciousness resides in Jame, in the mannequin, as the Board,” Geller acknowledged. “Numerous theories are circulating.”
Reflecting on the “revolving” theory and its various iterations, Geller shared, “I possess no definitive knowledge. Even if I did, I couldn’t confirm it, but truthfully, I am unaware. I do hope that one, or perhaps all, of these theories prove accurate. That would be fantastic. Anything that expands his presence on the show is something I’m enthusiastic about.”
Challenges to the Revolving Consciousness Theory
However, a significant challenge to the theory is Kier Eagan’s established death in 1939, predating the invention of the Severance chip procedure. Geller highlighted this point, noting, “Ms. Cobel originated the procedure, and she wouldn’t have been alive during that era.”
This discrepancy brings up questions regarding the plausibility of extracting and implanting Kier’s consciousness into a chip. While seemingly improbable, Severance has already delved into unconventional concepts, including the potential for human consciousness implantation in animals, exemplified by the Lumon goats.
Geller’s Perspective on Portraying Kier Eagan
Discussing his portrayal of Kier Eagan, Geller revealed, “As an actor, I avoid perceiving him as inherently evil, as it complicates the performance. I must identify with his positive traits. Our understanding of him remains incomplete, even for me.”
He elaborated, “Kier would have passed away before the Severance chip procedure’s development, so if that procedure is seen as malevolent, he wouldn’t have been associated with it. My approach focuses on Kier’s original intention: establishing the company to alleviate suffering. That’s my foundational perspective.”
Hopes for Kier Eagan’s Future in Severance
Considering his aspirations for Kier Eagan’s character evolution within Severance, Geller stated, “That is definitely on my wishlist. Online discussions frequently suggest origin episodes or similar explorations. Such developments would be a dream scenario, should they choose to pursue that path.”
Expanding on potential avenues for character exploration, he added, “They could employ flashbacks, dreams, or visions. The potential exists, despite his character’s death.”
“I genuinely hope it materializes, but I have no insight into whether it will,” Geller concluded. “Ultimately, it rests with [Severance creator] Dan Erickson and [director] Ben Stiller, so we await season three with anticipation. Fingers crossed.”
