Selena Gomez Envisions “Only Murders” Co-star Martin Short Delivering Wedding Speech

Selena Gomez is sharing details about her forthcoming wedding to music producer Benny Blanco, and she has high expectations for one of her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars. The actress and singer, age 32, discussed her upcoming nuptials with Blanco, 37, during a recent appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Thursday, March 27, while promoting their collaborative album, “I Said I Love You First.”

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have been publicly discussing their engagement and forthcoming wedding.

Wedding Officiants and Speech Demands

During the interview, host Drew Barrymore playfully inquired whether Steve Martin, 79, and Martin Short, 75, would “officiate” the wedding ceremony. Gomez responded that she hadn’t considered that possibility, but revealed a specific request she has already made of Short.

“Marty is required to give a speech,” Gomez stated. “I have instructed him that he must.”

She lightheartedly added that “Steve will likely bring out his banjo,” but emphasized her anticipation for Short’s contribution, saying, “I feel like Marty would deliver an incredible speech.”

Co-stars’ Reactions to Engagement

Gomez, who has starred alongside Short and Martin in the popular Hulu crime comedy series since 2021, recently shared insights into her co-stars’ reactions upon learning of her engagement.

Selena Gomez has already requested that Martin Short give a speech at her wedding.

She revealed to fans that Blanco proposed in December. Discussing Steve Martin’s reaction, she recounted to Jimmy Kimmel in January how Martin communicated his congratulations: “Steve ensured he sent my assistant an email so my assistant could relay congratulations to me,” she explained on the late-night show. “That is his method of communication. He always aims to be courteous. And it is very thoughtful, but a brief text message is also acceptable.”

Martin Short’s Ring Appraisal at Golden Globes

Short, in contrast, appeared more captivated by her engagement ring.

Martin Short’s apparent fascination with Selena Gomez’s engagement ring was captured at the Golden Globes.

Kimmel highlighted a viral video clip showing the actor seemingly examining her diamond at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards.

“Is he evaluating it? What exactly is his action there?” Kimmel questioned.

“He is rotating it. Removing it. I was uncertain of his intentions; hence my confused expression,” Gomez chuckled. “He merely wanted to understand what was occurring. I believe he was somewhat interested…”

When Kimmel suggested Short or Martin serve as “ring bearers” during the wedding vows, the star responded, “That would be adorable.”

Taylor Swift’s Flower Girl Request

However, it was her close friend, Taylor Swift, who expressed her desire to play a role in the ceremony.

Upon Gomez sharing images of her ring to announce her engagement, the Grammy-winning singer commented, “Yes I will be the flower girl.”

Swift was not the only prominent figure to congratulate the pop star on her engagement announcement.

Martin also acknowledged the engagement on social media, posting a photo featuring himself with Gomez and Short.

“Congratulations to Benny and Selena, from her two strange uncles,” he wrote, to which the future bride replied, “You are the finest weirdo a girl like me could have! ❤️”

Wedding Planning on Hold

Earlier this month, Gomez and Blanco revealed that wedding preparations have not yet commenced due to their recent album release and promotion schedule.

The couple publicly confirmed their relationship in December 2023, although Gomez later disclosed that they had been dating secretly for six months prior.
