Suspect Details Emerge as Investigation Continues
Sources have indicated to De Telegraaf that the suspect is likely an Eastern European man in his early 40s, although these details remain unconfirmed.
He reportedly checked into an Amsterdam hotel, which has been subsequently searched by specialist police units, on the day preceding the attack.
A witness to the arrest stated that the suspect ‘appeared ordinary’ and ‘middle-aged’.
Victims Identified in Amsterdam Stabbing
The five individuals injured were identified as a 67-year-old and a 69-year-old American couple, a 26-year-old Polish man who has since been discharged from hospital, a 73-year-old woman from Belgium, and a 19-year-old woman from Amsterdam.
Incident Locations and Police Response
Police responders discovered the wounded individuals at various points in and around Sint Nicolaasstraat in central Amsterdam.
Subsequently, they established a cordon encompassing a substantial area surrounding the Royal Palace in central Dam Square to allow for the landing of an air ambulance.
Dutch newspaper Het Parool reported that the initial stabbings occurred on a side street adjacent to Nieuwendijk, a busy shopping thoroughfare in the city.
The suspect then allegedly proceeded towards Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, where he wounded another person at the intersection of the two streets.

Justice and Security Minister David van Weel stated yesterday that it is premature to speculate on the motivation behind the attack.
Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema indicated that a police inquiry is ‘fully underway’ and authorities are hoping to ascertain further details of the events imminently.
‘Our deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families, and those close to them,’ she added.
