EFL Assistant Referee Charged with Child Sex Offences

A prominent assistant referee from the English Football League (EFL), with a history of officiating in EFL and FA Cup matches, is facing serious allegations. Gareth Viccars, aged 46, has been formally charged with 16 counts of child sexual offences, including accusations of sexual activity with a minor. The legal proceedings are scheduled to commence in September in London, and Mr. Viccars remains in custody.

Legal Proceedings Against Viccars

Mr. Viccars’ case initially came before Willesden Magistrates Court in February. At that time, he was charged with one count of penetrative sexual activity involving a girl between 13 and 15 years old. This initial charge is now integrated into the broader set of 16 charges he currently faces. His trial is set to be held at Snaresbrook Crown Court, situated in east London, with proceedings slated to begin on September 22 later this year.
