Actor Chris Hemsworth, known for his roles in blockbuster films, recently shared a relatable anecdote about a celebrity encounter. Despite his own fame, the Thor star admitted to experiencing a fan moment when he and his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, met pop sensation Billie Eilish at the Oscars. The Australian actor humorously recounted his slight regret over requesting a selfie with the singer during a recent television appearance.
Hemsworth’s Celebrity Selfie Regret
During a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Hemsworth participated in a rapid-fire question segment. When asked if he had ever requested an autograph from another celebrity, the actor revealed a recent encounter with Billie Eilish where he asked for a photograph instead.
The Oscars Encounter
“I took a photo with Billie Eilish at the Oscars,” Hemsworth disclosed. “I recall thinking to myself, ‘Perhaps I shouldn’t. Don’t do it.’”
He explained that despite his hesitation, he and Pataky proceeded to take the selfie, thinking of their children: India, 12, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 11.
“I reasoned, ‘My children will appreciate this,’” he stated. “However, immediately after taking it, I felt a shift. I transitioned from being a fellow professional to seeming like just a fan. We’ll likely never achieve genuine friendship.”
“Industry Colleague” Comment
Host Stephen Colbert playfully questioned Hemsworth’s “work colleague” remark, inquiring if he had actually collaborated with Eilish professionally. The Marvel star clarified that while they haven’t worked together directly, they are “industry-kind of colleagues, crossing paths.”
Colbert humorously agreed, suggesting he could also claim to be “colleagues” with famous individuals, quipping, “Certainly, Anthony Hopkins and I are work associates.”
Met Gala Selfie Confession
Hemsworth’s penchant for celebrity selfies extends beyond the Oscars. He also confessed to flouting the strict no-phone policy at the previous year’s Met Gala, fashion’s most prestigious annual event.
Breaking Met Gala Rules
Speaking with E! News, Hemsworth admitted to taking “numerous selfies” inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the venue for the renowned Met Gala, where social media posting is typically prohibited.
“Selfies everywhere. My phone is full of selfies. I find myself wondering, ‘When did I even take that? Let’s delete that one,’” he told the news outlet.
Enjoying the Met Gala Experience
Despite his minor rule-breaking with his camera phone, Hemsworth shared that he and Pataky thoroughly enjoyed the event.
“My wife and I reside in Australia,” he told E! News. “Therefore, any large awards ceremony remains novel and thrilling for us, preventing us from becoming cynical. This particular event, with its diverse group of attendees – different from the usual film award show crowds, including sports figures, musicians, and artists – made for a genuinely enjoyable evening.”
