Ring Doorbell Enhances User Experience with Smart Video Search

Owners of a Ring Doorbell may benefit from a significant update introducing advanced functionality. These innovative smart home security devices, functioning as replacements for conventional doorbells, incorporate a camera and various sensors. Operated via a smartphone application, they enable homeowners to remotely view and communicate with visitors at their door, irrespective of location.

Enhanced Functionality: Beyond Live Monitoring

Ring Doorbells offer more than just real-time viewing. They possess the capability to record and store extensive video footage, spanning hours, days, or even weeks. This stored content allows users to review past events, verifying package deliveries, confirming visits, or investigating incidents such as minor vehicle collisions.

Subscription Service and Event History

Subscribers to Ring’s tiered plans, starting at £4.99 monthly, gain access to 180 days of Event History. This feature captures video from every doorbell activation, motion-detected activity, or initiated Live View session, providing comprehensive monitoring capabilities around the clock.

Introducing Smart Video Search: An AI-Powered Solution

Navigating through substantial video archives to pinpoint specific moments can be cumbersome. Addressing this, Ring has launched Smart Video Search, a novel feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI). The company describes it as: “a new AI feature which simplifies the process for customers to locate particular moments within their Ring Event History.”

Refining Search Capabilities for User Convenience

“Smart Video Search empowers users to stay connected to what is important, including family, pets, home, and hobbies like observing wildlife,” Ring, an Amazon-owned company, stated in a recent online announcement.

AI-Driven Precision in Video Retrieval

This feature presents a user-friendly method for locating specific video segments to validate nighttime disturbances or identify memorable moments for preservation. Ring clarifies that Smart Video Search utilizes proprietary AI technology combined with Visual Language Modelling (VLM) to correlate search queries with images and video within the Event History.
