Viral Lawn Care Star Assists Kansas City Royals with Field Prep

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A social media sensation known for transforming neglected lawns for free, and amassing nearly 40 million followers, recently tackled a unique project that sparked some initial apprehension for the viral personality. Spencer, the 26-year-old behind SB Mowers, who prefers to be identified only by his first name for privacy, uploads weekly videos showcasing his reclamation of overgrown residential yards.

SB Mowers Gains National Recognition for Community Service

Spencer has achieved online fame as his videos repeatedly go viral. These clips often feature grateful homeowners, including seniors, individuals with disabilities, and parents, expressing their sincere appreciation for his generous labor and the stunning lawn transformations.

“My prayers have been answered,” one homeowner exclaimed in a video.

Following a time-lapse visual of a yard renewal, another homeowner reacted, “Now my children can actually play outside!”

“You’re an angel. An angel fell from the sky,” one moved man declared.

Spencer notes that it is these heartfelt reactions that fuel his dedication to continue providing lawn care services, project after project, for over three years.

“I’ve likely undertaken around 200 properties thus far,” he estimated.

The Kansas City Royals Call on Viral Lawn Expert

However, a particular email request received in March stood out from the others. As Major League Baseball teams nationwide geared up their stadiums for opening day, the Kansas City Royals reached out to SB Mowing for assistance with their field.

“He has accomplished such remarkable things. The idea of him joining us seemed perfect,” stated Trevor Vance, Senior Director of Grounds and Landscaping at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. “I did forewarn him that the grass here is unlike anything he’s accustomed to cutting. He’s used to dealing with vegetation towering at six feet, while ours is maintained below an inch.”

A Dream Come True for Royals Fan

For Spencer, a Kansas native and lifelong Royals supporter, this opportunity was truly surreal.

“It felt incredibly strange when I first saw the email from the Royals. They expressed their admiration for my content,” Spencer recalled.

He spent the day collaborating with the groundskeeping crew, learning the techniques for precisely cutting and striping the stadium grass, as well as conditioning the soil and preparing the infield.

Groundskeeper Praises SB Mowers’ Work Ethic

“He arrived in his work attire and immediately began working,” Vance commented. “He performed exceptionally well. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate him an 8… a strong 8, especially considering it was his first time working on professional baseball turf.”

Lasting Impression and Future Prospects

The experience was an unparalleled opportunity for Spencer, providing him with a fresh perspective on baseball.

“On opening day, I’ll be watching the game and thinking to myself, ‘I played a small part in making that incredible-looking field,’” he reflected.

Spencer’s visit also left a positive impression on the Royals staff.

“If Spencer ever decided to transition from tackling overgrown lawns and express interest in a position here, I would hire him without hesitation,” Vance affirmed. “He embodies a strong work ethic and a compassionate spirit—qualities that are increasingly rare to find.”

Inspiring Community Engagement Through Social Media

Naturally, Spencer is documenting his experience with the Royals online, adding to his ongoing stream of benevolent deeds, with the hope of motivating others to engage in similar acts of kindness.

Spencer hopes “to enhance the beauty of my community and simply assist individuals in need. Additionally, I aim to encourage those who watch my videos to step outside and lend a hand to their own neighbors as well,” he concluded.
