Marbella authorities have reportedly levied a €5,000 fine against tennis icon Novak Djokovic and his wife, Jelena. The penalty is understood to be related to unauthorized construction work carried out at their luxurious Marbella residence, situated near the city center. Reports suggest the tennis legend encountered issues with local officials due to unlicensed renovations on his Marbella mansion.
Council Action Over Property Alterations
According to reports, Djokovic commenced building modifications at the €10 million estate in Sierra Blanca without securing the mandatory permits. The Marbella Council initiated proceedings after discovering the renovations contravened Andalusian Land Law pertaining to property height, floor count, and boundary distances. Consequently, Djokovic was instructed to dismantle certain completed constructions, including an underground parking area and a porch.
Repeated Fines and Potential Escalation
The 24-time Grand Slam champion initially received a €5,000 fine for failing to rectify the planning regulation discrepancies within a stipulated two-month timeframe. Subsequently, he has incurred another €5,000 penalty for continued non-compliance. Marbella 24 Horas, via Eurosport, reported that Djokovic was officially notified of this second fine on February 13th.
Furthermore, Djokovic has been cautioned that neglecting to resolve these issues could trigger additional measures, potentially encompassing up to twelve consecutive fines. His family, including his two children, are reported to spend several weeks annually at the property, acquired in 2020.
