Joshua Jackson Lightheartedly Jokes About Borrowing Set Furniture After Home Loss in California Wildfires

Actor Joshua Jackson recently quipped about potentially taking some furniture from the Doctor Odyssey production set for his new residence, following the devastating California wildfires that claimed his family home. The star mentioned the set’s comfortable furnishings as a potential solution to his current lack of household items.

Comfortable Set Furnishings Tempt Jackson

“I must say, the seating on this set is exceptionally comfortable, truly a first for me on any production,” Jackson, 46, remarked in a recent interview with People, published Thursday, March 27.

“Given my current situation of not possessing any furniture, it would be quite convenient to ‘borrow’ a few pieces for my new house once filming concludes,” he jested, adding a touch of humor to his recent personal challenges.

Home Destroyed in California Wildfires

The Dawson’s Creek alum publicly confirmed in January the tragic loss of his childhood home in Topanga, California. The residence, which he purchased in 2001 as an adult, was completely destroyed by the recent wildfires.

Family Relocation and Reflections on Loss

Jackson also shared the immediate need to secure short-term housing for his young daughter, Juno, age 4, whom he co-parents with his former partner, Jodie Turner-Smith. Turner-Smith initiated divorce proceedings in October 2023.

Recounting the Devastation

Earlier in March, on March 5, Jackson openly discussed the harrowing experience on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“Thankfully, everyone is safe,” he conveyed to Fallon. “However, the devastation is immense. It’s a surreal experience to wake up one morning and realize all your worldly possessions are reduced to just a sweatsuit and shoes.”

Confronting the Remains

“Visiting the site, the scene was still smoldering,” he recounted. “Standing before the remnants, it struck me that this was no longer my home. It was simply a charred pile of debris from the fire.”

Looking Forward to Rebuilding

Despite the profound loss, Jackson expressed a sense of optimism regarding the process of rebuilding.

“I am actually looking forward to constructing a new house, one that is not filled with my past history. This new home will be for Juno and me, a space where every element will reflect her story as she grows. While this wasn’t my chosen path to renovation, I find myself surprisingly enthusiastic about this fresh start,” he concluded.
