Homer Laffoon, son of the late actress Anne Heche, is managing her estate and endeavoring to liquidate remaining assets to settle approximately $4.1 million in creditor claims. Legal documents reveal the ongoing complexities in resolving Heche’s financial affairs following her unexpected passing.

Estate Status Update and Asset Inventory

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Laffoon, aged 23, provided a status update on March 21st, indicating that the estate’s closure is still pending due to unresolved legal claims. This update, initially reported by In Touch, highlights the continued efforts to manage Heche’s financial legacy.

Anne Heche tragically died at 53 in August 2022, succumbing to injuries sustained in a severe car accident in Los Angeles. Notably, Heche passed away without a will, leading to a complex probate process.

In November 2022, Laffoon was officially appointed as the general administrator of his mother’s estate. Recent court filings disclose that he has identified approximately $92,500 in assets from her professional endeavors and personal belongings.

Financial Assets and Property Sales

Laffoon’s March 21st filing further detailed that the total assets discovered amount to nearly $200,000. These holdings include funds within bank accounts and a corporation associated with her various business projects. The estate’s income streams are composed of residuals from her acting career and additional personal possessions.

To manage these assets, Laffoon relocated “tangible personal property” to a secure storage facility. He also engaged a reputable company to oversee the sale of these assets, including Heche’s piano. Moreover, a book contract for Heche’s memoir, Call Me Anne, was executed and the book released in January 2023; however, Laffoon reported that book “sales [were] not strong.”

Estate Insolvency and Outstanding Lawsuits

Laffoon confirmed that he recently received authorization to collect Heche’s acting royalty payments and is actively pursuing any other business assets that his mother may have possessed.

Despite these efforts, Laffoon stated that the estate is likely insolvent. He explained that “the anticipated value of the combined inventories and appraisals” falls significantly short of the $4.1 million in outstanding legal claims against the estate.

Details of Creditor Claims

Among the significant claims are lawsuits filed in November 2022. Lynne Mishele, the homeowner whose residence was impacted by Heche’s car crash, has filed a claim seeking $2 million in damages. Separately, Jennifer and John Durand, the property owners, have also initiated legal action seeking at least $2 million to cover their losses.

Additionally, actor Thomas Jane, Heche’s former partner, is seeking repayment of $149,106. Jane asserts that these funds were loaned to Heche prior to her death and represent another significant claim against the estate.

Estate’s Financial Outlook

Laffoon reiterated in his recent court filing, “Based on the anticipated value of the combined inventories and appraisals and the filed creditors claims, the estate is insolvent.” This statement underscores the challenging financial situation facing Heche’s estate and the complexities of settling these substantial debts.

Homer Laffoon is Anne Heche’s elder son from her marriage to ex-husband, Coleman Laffoon. Their marriage spanned from 2001 to 2007. Following her separation from Coleman, Heche began a relationship with actor James Tupper. Heche and Tupper were together from 2007 to 2018 and had a son, Atlas Tupper, born in March 2009.

Family Tributes Following Heche’s Death

Following Anne’s passing in August 2022, Homer publicly expressed his grief and paid tribute to his mother on behalf of himself and his younger brother, Atlas.

“My brother Atlas and I lost our Mom,” Homer stated to People shortly after Heche’s death. “After six days of almost unbelievable emotional swings, I am left with a deep, wordless sadness. Hopefully my mom is free from pain and beginning to explore what I like to imagine as her eternal freedom. … Rest in Peace Mom. I love you.”

Coleman Laffoon also shared a tribute to his former wife via Instagram, stating, “In the wake of Anne’s passing, I just wanted to say a few things. One, I loved her and I miss her, and I’m always going to. Two, Homer is OK. He’s grieving, of course, and it’s rough — it’s really rough, as probably anybody can imagine. But he’s surrounded by family and he’s strong and he’s gonna be OK.”
