Stephen Fry, 67, seen with husband Elliott Spencer, 37, for the first time in six years

Stephen Fry Receives Knighthood at Windsor Castle

Renowned actor, comedian, and author Stephen Fry has been awarded a knighthood by King Charles at Windsor Castle. The 67-year-old Fry, beaming with joy, was dressed in a sharp suit paired with trainers as he accepted the prestigious honor. His mother, sister, and husband Elliott Spencer proudly witnessed the ceremony. This rare public appearance of the couple follows recent comments from Fry regarding their preference for privacy and infrequent public sightings.

Privacy and Marriage: Stephen Fry and Elliott Spencer

Stephen Fry has previously spoken about his private life with husband Elliott Spencer, indicating their shared desire for privacy, which explains their absence from the public eye for the last six years. Fry, the celebrated 67-year-old actor and television personality, and Spencer, 36, married in a discreet ceremony in Dereham, Norfolk, in January 2015. Since then, they have largely maintained a low profile regarding their relationship. Apart from occasional appearances at premieres and award shows, Stephen and Elliott generally avoid red carpets and prominent public events, with their last observed joint public appearance being six years ago.

Hosting Jeopardy! and Domestic Life

In a recent interview discussing his role as host of the UK adaptation of the popular US quiz show Jeopardy!, Stephen Fry offered insights into his personal routines. Having taken over hosting duties last January and currently leading the second season, Fry shared details about his home life and how he secured the Jeopardy! hosting position during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

The Accidental Jeopardy! Gig

Fry recounted his conversation with Jonathan Ross, stating: “I was on The Morning Show in the US. I had dinner with my American agent, who asked, ‘What do you do when you’re not filming?’ I replied, ‘My husband and I, we tend to skip Hollywood parties, have an early dinner, watch Jeopardy!, and then go to bed.'” Fry continued, “My agent then asked, ‘Do you watch it in the UK?’ I mentioned, ‘We don’t have it in the UK.’ The conversation moved on, and I didn’t give it another thought. However, two weeks later, he called and announced: ‘ITV London is delighted you’re going to host Jeopardy!‘”

Wedding Anniversary and Reflections on Life

Earlier this year, Stephen Fry provided a rare glimpse into his personal life by sharing a throwback photograph from his wedding on social media, accompanied by a loving tribute to his husband. His Instagram caption read: “Ten happy years to the day since our marriage. I consider myself a fortunate man.”

Thoughts on Longevity

Last year, Stephen Fry contemplated mortality in a discussion with Brave New World, explaining his reservations about living beyond 100 years old. He remarked: “Personally, I’m not particularly interested in extreme longevity for myself. Like most people, I am interested in experiencing old age with minimal pain and without significant cognitive decline. However, I don’t aspire to outlive all my friends… If everyone in my circle lived to 120, perhaps I would be happy to exceed 100. But as it stands, I would dread becoming that solitary, timeless figure akin to the Flying Dutchman, so prevalent in historical narratives—the survivor who has outlived all their loved ones and acquaintances. I would find that profoundly distressing.”
