Drew Barrymore Reveals Recent Ghosting Experience
Actress and talk show host Drew Barrymore recently disclosed that she was ghosted after a date.
Recounting the Incident on Her Talk Show
During a recent episode of her daytime program, “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the 50-year-old actress recounted the interaction. “I texted him, saying, ‘It was lovely to see you the other night,'” Barrymore shared. “We exchanged a couple of messages, and then he simply replied with ‘Ha.’ Since then, I haven’t heard from him.”
Barrymore, who did not reveal the identity of the individual, expressed her bewilderment, stating, “It just happens, and I don’t understand why. I personally would never do that. It’s not in my nature to act that way. If you show interest, why wouldn’t you follow through?”
Co-hosts Weigh In
Valerie Bertinelli and Ross Mathews, regular contributors to the talk show, offered their perspectives on the situation. Bertinelli humorously commented, “Don’t bait the hook if you’re not going to reel it in,” while Mathews quipped with a playful double entendre.
Emphasizing the commonality of the experience, Barrymore reassured her audience that being ghosted “happens to all of us,” even to “good people who wouldn’t necessarily treat others in that manner.”
Analyzing the Cryptic Message
The 50 First Dates actress and her friends dissected the ambiguous final text message.
“Today, my friend asked, ‘Well, did he reply with one ‘a’ in ‘ha’?'” Barrymore recounted. “I’m serious, this actually happened. And I responded, ‘No, it was more like five or six ‘a’s.’ And they exclaimed, ‘Oh no, that’s great!'”
Mathews agreed, stating, “As a man, it is slightly more encouraging if it were ‘hahahahaha,’ because that suggests the conversation is ongoing, rather than a curt ‘Ha.’ followed by silence.”
Barrymore clarified her stance on dating signals, stating, “I don’t want to approach dating in a way where the number of ‘a’s determines interest. It’s all so ambiguous these days. Let’s not waste time on people who are non-committal. In a way, these situations are actually time-savers.”
Past Relationships and Current Outlook
Barrymore was previously married to art consultant Will Kopelman from 2012 to 2016, with whom she co-parents her daughters, Olive, 12, and Frankie, 10.
In a recent interview, the “Never Been Kissed” star mentioned enjoying the balance of her television career, family life, and the experience of dating as a single mother.
Contentment Regardless of Relationship Status
Regarding her ideal partner, she expressed, “I’d love someone who inspires me, who possesses a similar level of self-awareness and personal growth. I’m not looking to regress.”
While “open” to a relationship, Barrymore also conveyed contentment with her single status. “I never feel like something is lacking,” she stated earlier this year.
Reflecting on turning 50, Barrymore shared, “I was capable of fun and joy, but happiness felt elusive. There’s a significant distinction, and now I genuinely feel happy. This past decade has guided me toward choosing happiness, a choice I actively make every day.”
