LeBron James Returns, But Bulls Spoil Lakers’ Home Game
LOS ANGELES – LeBron James rejoined the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night after missing seven games due to a left groin strain. However, the Chicago Bulls spoiled his comeback, securing a decisive 146-115 win on the Lakers’ home court.
Bulls’ Offensive Explosion Overwhelms Lakers
James, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, was in the starting lineup at Crypto.com Arena for the final game of the Lakers’ five-game homestand. Despite 17 points from James and a strong 29-point first half performance from Luka Dončić (34 points total, including eight three-pointers), neither star could impede the Bulls’ dominant offensive display.
Chicago’s offense overwhelmed the typically robust Los Angeles defense, propelling them to their seventh victory in the last nine contests. The Bulls’ 146 points surpassed the Lakers’ previous season-high opponent score by 12 points.

James’ Injury and Lakers’ Performance
James sustained his injury late in the Lakers’ defeat against the Boston Celtics on March 8. That loss concluded an eight-game winning streak that had elevated the Lakers to second place in the Western Conference. Subsequently, they suffered three additional losses on the road without James before recovering to win the first three games of their recent homestand.
During his recovery, James, who is 40 years old, traveled separately from the team to receive treatment but participated in workouts throughout the week.
Prior to his injury, James had been a consistent presence for the Lakers, playing in 58 of their initial 69 games in his 22nd NBA season, averaging 25.0 points, 8.5 assists, and 8.2 rebounds.
Notably, just two games before this recent injury, James achieved another milestone, becoming the first NBA player to accumulate 50,000 combined points in regular season and playoff games.
Rui Hachimura’s Return and Coach Redick’s Perspective
In addition to James’ return, the Lakers also welcomed back starting forward Rui Hachimura, who had been sidelined for 12 games with a knee injury, for the game against Chicago.
Hachimura is a key contributor for Los Angeles, ranking fourth in team scoring with 13.3 points per game and providing valuable contributions on both ends of the court.
“Having both of those players back, statistically, our transition offense has declined in their absence,” Lakers coach JJ Redick commented. “We’re anticipating improved team dynamics with their reintegration.”

Looking Ahead
Los Angeles previously lost to Milwaukee on Thursday while Dončić and Austin Reaves were also inactive, leaving the Lakers shorthanded with four regular starters for their sixth game in eight days.
Dončić and Reaves were cleared to play against Chicago.
“We haven’t consistently had our full roster available this season,” Redick stated. “It’s been a season-long challenge managing player availability. However, I am optimistic that these final 13 games will allow us to develop consistency and team cohesion, and hopefully recapture the level of play we demonstrated prior to the Boston game.”
