Judd Trump questions authorities after losing Players Championship final

Trump Voices Concerns Over Equipment Following Players Championship Final Loss

Judd Trump has raised questions about the snooker balls used in his Players Championship final defeat against Kyren Wilson. Despite a captivating contest that went to a deciding frame, Trump, known as ‘The Ace’, described his experience with the balls as “very, very strange.”

Wilson Secures Title in Decisive Frame

Kyren Wilson claimed victory and the £150,000 prize, securing his fourth ranking title of the season and the prestigious Players Championship crown. However, Trump suggested the final match felt “different” from his previous tournament games. He asserted that the unusual behavior of the balls hindered his typically fluid playing style. It’s understood that both competitors voiced their concerns to the referee during the encounter.

Speaking to ITV, Trump elaborated: “The balls were playing a bit tricky. It wasn’t like the rest of the tournament where I was able to play free-flowing snooker. I don’t know what the difference was today. It was very, very strange, and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced that before in a tournament. It was a good tournament overall, and I’ll look forward to the next competition.”

“Like a Ping-Pong Ball” – Trump on Ball Performance

When pressed further on the cue ball issue, Trump explained: “It was tricky, admittedly for both of us. The ball felt very light and was reacting unexpectedly, almost like a ping-pong ball. It was quite bizarre.”

He continued, “It was challenging because, leading into the game, I anticipated a high standard of play. Kyren and I have both demonstrated excellent form throughout the tournament. However, this issue seemed to negatively impact both our performances slightly. It wasn’t necessarily disappointing, but neither of us could quite reach our peak.”

Decider Drama and Sportsmanship

“There was certainly drama in the deciding frame. I personally wasn’t able to perform at my best. I had intended to strike the pink ball in a crucial moment, but the white ball unexpectedly stopped. Congratulations to Kyren and his family. I’m already looking forward to the next tournament and thank you to everyone who came to support us.”

Wilson, the reigning world champion, has increasingly asserted dominance in his rivalry with Trump this season, creating compelling matches between them. However, Trump still has significant opportunities remaining this season, including the upcoming Tour Championship and the World Championship in April, to achieve a major victory.

Trump Remains Optimistic

“[Victory] doesn’t necessarily have to be against Kyren, it can be against any opponent,” Trump added. “If I reach another final, it signifies I’m performing well. It’s positive for snooker to have these close, exciting matches, and I hope the playing conditions will be ideal next time, enabling us to showcase some fantastic snooker.”
