Ken Bruce, a highly regarded figure in radio and television broadcasting, is most recognized for his long tenure hosting the weekday mid-morning program on BBC Radio 2, from 1986 to 2023. The 74-year-old personality received significant recognition in 2023 when he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Bruce’s roots are in Glasgow, where he was born and raised. He attended grammar school before training as a chartered accountant.

Early Career and Rise at the BBC

Prior to his successful career in broadcasting, which commenced with the Hospital Broadcasting Service in Glasgow in the early 1970s, Bruce held a job washing vehicles. His career progressed as he joined BBC Radio Scotland as a staff announcer. Subsequently, he also served as a continuity announcer for television on BBC One Scotland and BBC Two Scotland.

With the establishment of BBC Radio Scotland in November 1978, Bruce became one of the original presenters for the program Nightbeat.

His prominence grew in the 1980s when he succeeded Terry Wogan as the host of The Radio 2 Breakfast Show, marking a pivotal moment in his career at BBC Radio 2.

Personal Life

Bruce is currently married to Kerith Coldham, and the couple shares two sons and a daughter.

In addition to his children with Kerith, he has two sons from his first marriage to Fiona Fraser and another child from his second marriage to Anne Gilchrist.
