The Chase star Anne Hegerty makes 'poor' confession – 'I needed freebies'

Anne Hegerty, ‘The Governess’, Reveals Celebrity Perks After Lost Car Saga

Anne Hegerty, widely recognised as ‘The Governess’ from ITV’s popular quiz show The Chase, recently disclosed some unexpected advantages of fame. In a candid moment, Hegerty recounted how her public profile facilitated the swift return of her misplaced vehicle, highlighting the preferential treatment often afforded to those in the spotlight.

According to Hegerty, the incident unfolded after her car was lost. “My agent posted a tweet querying how the RAC could misplace The Governess’ car,” she explained. “Within approximately thirty minutes, a highly concerned RAC representative contacted me directly via social media, expressing sincere apologies and requesting further details. Shortly thereafter, my car was located.”

VIP Treatment Due to Fame

Reflecting on the situation, Hegerty acknowledged the role of her celebrity status in the rapid resolution. “I believe that had I not been known, without the amplified attention generated by the tweet, the recovery process might have been considerably prolonged,” she stated. She clarified, “This is not a criticism of the RAC, as they were experiencing high demand at the time, but it illustrates the privileges that can accompany fame.” Hegerty’s account was shared in a video clip circulating on Reddit via MMCltalks.

Freebies and Perks of Stardom

The 66-year-old quiz show personality, who made her debut as the first female ‘Chaser’ on The Chase in 2010, also discussed the phenomenon of receiving complimentary items and services, a stark contrast to her experiences before achieving widespread recognition.

“I’ve been offered complimentary drinks in pubs,” Hegerty revealed. “While appreciative, I often quip that as I’m likely the wealthiest patron present, I should insist on paying. However, the offer of free items is undoubtedly a perk.”

She further commented on the irony, “It’s amusing that when financial assistance would have been genuinely beneficial, it wasn’t forthcoming. Now, in a position of relative affluence and fame, complimentary goods are readily available. It’s a paradoxical and arguably inequitable situation, yet undeniably advantageous.”

Open About Autism and Personal Life

Beyond her television career and the associated glamour, Hegerty has been forthcoming about her personal journey and challenges.

Following a diagnosis of autism at age 45, prompted by recognising her own traits in a television program about the condition, she has become a prominent advocate for autism awareness and understanding, particularly regarding Asperger syndrome.

Setting the Record Straight on Relationships

Hegerty’s romantic life has frequently been a topic of public interest. However, she maintains a contentedly single status.

During her participation in ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2018, she addressed a persistent rumour head-on.

“There remains an online assertion that I am married to someone named Jake Hester, whom I genuinely do not know,” she clarified with humour.

Content with Single Life

Regarding romantic interest from others, Hegerty expressed her appreciation but affirmed her contentment with her current situation.

“It’s not that I lack romantic opportunities,” she mentioned in an interview with The Sun. “However, I value my own autonomy and have experienced previous relationships failing due to my inability to allocate sufficient emotional energy. Therefore, I concluded that pursuing romance was not conducive to my well-being.”

In conclusion, she stated, “I find male companionship exceptionally rewarding in a platonic context – and prefer to maintain it as such.”
