Taylor Swift's pal Jaime King forced to move out of $10k-a-month LA home after losing custody of kids

Jaime King Relocates Amid Custody Dispute and Mandated Program

Actress and model Jaime King, known for her friendship with Taylor Swift, has reportedly moved from her Hollywood Hills rental home. This relocation comes as King is allegedly required to complete a drug and alcohol program and is restricted from being alone with her children.

Rental Relocation Following Custody Changes

The 45-year-old had been residing in a four-bedroom, three-bathroom property in the Hollywood Hills since April 2023, costing $10,000 per month. This was prior to her divorce from Kyle Newman being finalized in September 2023. However, sources indicate she vacated the premises earlier this month. Removal of her remaining possessions is reportedly underway.

Representatives for Ms. King have not issued a statement regarding this matter.

Images show items, including a mini trampoline and furniture such as a wooden daybed and couch, outside the residence, ready for collection.

Real estate records indicate that the property was quickly re-let for $11,900 per month, just a week after becoming available.

The 45-year-old actress and model had been renting a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home for $10k-a-month in the Hollywood Hills since April 2023 before her divorce from Kyle Newman was finalized September 2023

Financial Strain and Downsizing

An insider close to the actress, known for her role in Pearl Harbor, stated she was compelled to “downsize” and seek a more affordable residence. The source told The Sun that, “She has been struggling with her finances for years now after some failed film ventures but the custody fight and having to fight all the accusations made against her in court drained her bank accounts.”

The source further mentioned, “She moved into a smaller space just this month.”

King previously sold her Beverly Hills home for $2 million following her divorce from Newman in 2023.

Custody Battle and Personal Turmoil

According to the source, the actress is experiencing a “shattered” world after recently losing primary custody of her sons, James Knight, 11, and Leo Thames, 9, in the ongoing legal dispute with her former spouse.

“Now that the world knows, it’s made everything that much harder. It causes a wedge in personal and work relationships,” the insider revealed.

The source elaborated on the actress’s emotional state, “She is taking it very hard to say the least. She has had demons she’s been battling for decades but her recent troubles have been exasperated by her family troubles, her career struggling and financial stress.”

They added, “And I’m sure things others don’t even know about, she can be very private about what she’s going through.”

This situation follows a recent court decision on Monday, marking another development in the protracted custody case.

The custody case between actress Jaime and former husband Kyle Newman, 49, took another turn Monday as a judge ordered Newman to have sole physical custody of their two young sons. King pictured in LA in 2022

Sole Custody Awarded to Kyle Newman

A judge granted Kyle Newman, 49-year-old director, sole physical custody of their two sons, James Knight and Leo Thames, according to court documents reviewed by People. Taylor Swift, a close friend of King and godmother to Leo, has been a source of support.

The children will reside with Newman, who will have final legal decision-making authority, although both parents will legally share custody. This arrangement is amidst the contentious legal proceedings.

Supervised Visits and Mandated Program

The court stipulated that King, 45, must have supervised visits with her sons until she completes a mandatory drug and alcohol program, expected to last approximately six months.

Sources indicate that approved supervisors include her mother, sister, brother-in-law, and Newman’s brother, Kevin.

Years of Custody Disputes

King, recognized for her role in the 2004 comedy “White Chicks,” has been engaged in legal battles with her ex-husband concerning custody for the past five years.

Recently, King filed an emergency request with the court.

Financial Support Arguments

This request aimed to modify a prior agreement concerning child and spousal support established two years ago, according to People.

King’s legal representatives stated she “lacks the ability to pay support,” while Newman claimed King was “out of compliance with the court’s child and spousal support orders for well over a year.”

Newman also informed the court that King had not “sign[ed] a judgment” in their divorce agreement and disputed her legal right to “rescind” court orders.

Divorce and Initial Allegations

The former couple initially married in 2007 at Greystone Park and Manor in Los Angeles.

King initiated divorce proceedings in May 2020, seeking to end their 13-year marriage.

At the same time, King filed motions regarding custody, visitation, and a petition to prevent domestic violence.

Newman’s representative refuted these allegations in a statement at the time, calling them “another vicious, failed attempt of Kyle to continue his abuse of Jaime and manipulate the court system.”

The statement further claimed, “Today Kyle was denied all requests for emergency orders and the judge granted Jaime shared legal custody of their two children. The temporary domestic violence restraining order remains in place to protect Jaime.”

Substance Abuse Claims and Intervention

Amid the custody dispute, King stated in May 2020 that Newman had organized an “intervention” four months prior, alleging substance abuse issues to family and friends.

King said she voluntarily entered a facility to undergo testing and demonstrate she was drug and alcohol-free. She claimed she was discharged days later after passing a substance abuse test.

Newman’s Counter-Accusations

Newman, in his legal filings in 2020, described King as “a chronic drug addict and alcoholic who refuses to acknowledge that she has a problem, let alone seek meaningful treatment for such problem.”

Newman informed the court that “several friends” reported King’s narcotics use during both pregnancies. He added that medical professionals indicated their son Leo “was also addicted due to her continued drug use.”

He expressed that he “was devastated” upon learning at the same medical appointment “that Leo Thames had a congenital heart defect and would need surgery to survive as soon as he was born.”

Newman asserted in court documents that King had, on occasion, driven “under the influence” with their children in the car.

He claimed King became “so intoxicated in front of them that they thought their mother was dying, and abandoning them for days at a time to get drunk and high instead of care for them.”

He further alleged, “at one point, Jaime left Leo Thames at his doctor’s appointment with the nanny, only to be found over a half hour later at the liquor store across the street buying a bottle of alcohol.”

Taylor Swift’s Support and Son’s Health Issues

Leo Thames underwent surgery, and Taylor Swift reportedly made a substantial donation to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, King disclosed in an August 2016 Instagram post.

King stated that Swift “does so many selfless acts that go unnoticed because she does them silently, from such a great place of unconditional giving.”

King detailed her younger son’s health challenges, revealing, “Dear all- at 20 weeks our son was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries AKA TGA.”

King described witnessing her youngest child undergo “a major heart surgery … was terrifying, and traumatic for us as parents, for our family.”

King, while not addressing Newman’s allegations in the social media post, mentioned that she and her then-husband had kept the details private during that difficult period.

“Only a few of our best friends knew. I felt that I had to protect him in fear of the unknown, fear he would not make it. We felt isolated & confused.”

Gratitude for Support

King expressed gratitude for Swift, “the Godmother of Leo Thames,” for making an “incredible donation to the people that saved his life” at Cedar-Sinai, specifically the Congenital Heart Surgery unit led by Dr. Alistair Phillips.

King said she learned from her friend the significance of providing support and raising awareness for others in similar situations.

“It made us realize that silence cannot connect other parents & people going through these issues,” King stated. “TS knew that by giving back in this way would be the greatest gift one could give to us, to Leo Thames and to all of those with congenital heart issues.”

“She came to the ICU to comfort us, to hold and bond with him with such grace & strength.”
