Silent Hill 4: The Room Updated on GOG with Restored Content
While Silent Hill 4: The Room might not be every fan’s definitive entry in the series, it holds a significant position as the final installment developed by Team Silent. Regrettably, the original PC release was incomplete, lacking elements present in the PlayStation 2 version.
However, this is no longer the case. GOG, through its Preservation Program, has issued an update for its version of Silent Hill 4, incorporating the previously absent content.
Key Features of Silent Hill 4: The Room – GOG Preservation Program Update
Silent Hill 4: The Room distinguishes itself with a unique gameplay blend. Players navigate traditional third-person survival horror sequences, investigating unsettling cult activities and confronting nightmarish creatures, while also spending time in the protagonist’s apartment in a first-person perspective. This apartment setting provides moments of respite from the tension of resource management and combat—until the tranquility is shattered.
Restoration of Missing Hauntings
The apartment environment in Silent Hill 4 is central to the game’s atmosphere. Over time, it becomes plagued by paranormal occurrences. Although present to some extent in the original PC version, seven haunting sequences experienced by PlayStation 2 players were inexplicably missing. These restored scares now include:
- Wall of haunted dolls
- Blood-leaking water tap
- Crying shadow child
- And more unsettling events
These restored elements, present within the game’s code but deactivated in the original PC release, are now fully enabled in the GOG version.
