Defence Minister Luke Pollard stated on Times Radio that the assembly of international partners aims to convey to Washington that Europe and its allies are actively increasing their contributions, aligning with desired levels of engagement.
“We are optimistic that by bringing people together we can also demonstrate today to our US friends that Europe and our allies are delivering what they … want to see, us stepping up support,” Pollard affirmed.
He further clarified, “What we’re planning at the moment is for a force that will include the United States as a backstop,” underscoring the continued reliance on American support for the operation.

He emphasized the necessity for a more robust and reliable resolution in the current situation, stating, “That’s something that can’t happen this time around. So, that’s why we are supporting our friends in Ukraine and creating an offer that will keep the peace secure.”
