Veteran Actor Wings Hauser Passes Away at 78

Wings Hauser, a celebrated character actor and father to “Yellowstone” star Cole Hauser, has died at the age of 78.

The prolific performer reportedly passed away peacefully over the weekend in the company of his wife, Cali Lili Hauser, his fourth spouse. According to reports, he died of natural causes.

Cali Lili Hauser shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating: “Movie icon Wings Hauser took flight in the arms of his film & music partner, Cali Lili Hauser at their studio this weekend.”

She further elaborated, “Born in Hollywood, a proud Academy member and even prouder son of Academy Award-winning writer, director, producer Dwight A. Hauser and loving mother Geraldine T. Hauser, Wings Hauser’s unique and legendary career spanned 58 years across movies, television, and music, collaborating with numerous industry luminaries and garnering their respect.”

The statement continued, “His recent and forthcoming projects, along with his enduring wish, involve passing the torch to his beloved Cali, entrusting her to continue their shared endeavors, celebrating their romance, and honoring his legacy.”

A Storied Career in Film and Television

Gerald Dwight “Wings” Hauser, once described as ‘the biggest star you’ve never heard of,’ amassed an impressive resume of over 100 film and television credits since 1967.

Among his notable roles was “Ramrod” in the 1982 thriller “Vice Squad,” featuring Gary Swanson and Season Hubley.

He also played a supporting role in Norman Mailer’s 1987 film adaptation, “Tough Guys Don’t Dance,” starring Ryan O’Neal and Isabella Rossellini, earning him an Independent Spirit Award nomination.

His son, Cole Hauser, 49, has successfully followed in his father’s footsteps, achieving recognition for his acclaimed portrayal of Rip Wheeler in the hit series “Yellowstone”.

Family and Personal Life

In addition to Cole, Wings Hauser is survived by his daughter, Bright Hauser, from his first marriage to Jane Boltinhouse, which concluded in 1973.

He was married to Cass Warner from 1974 to 1977 and Nancy Locke from 1979 to 1999.

He married Cali Lili Hauser in 2002, who remained his wife until his passing.

Television Appearances and Final Credits

Hauser had a recurring role in the daytime drama “The Young and the Restless” as Greg Foster, initially joining the cast in 1977. He later returned to the role for several episodes in 2010.

His final acting credit was in a 2010 episode of the series “Criminal Minds.”

His wife shared a statement this week following his death.

Cali Lili Hauser expressed her profound grief to Variety, stating: “We were kindred spirits from the start, living life to the fullest each day, creating music and writing songs daily in preparation for several forthcoming albums, books, and a new film featuring an original soundtrack, similar to our recent award-winning project ‘Eve N’ God; This Female Is Not Yet Rated.”

She continued, “He considered me his future, and despite my feminist ideals, I found my perfect match in this man and was deeply content and proud to build our life together. Marriage and partnership were not something I envisioned until I met Wings.”

Concluding her tribute, Cali affirmed, “Naturally, this loss is incredibly challenging, but I am committed to fulfilling his wishes to ‘continue the work’ and bring to fruition all the projects we planned for the coming years.”
